Yea! I finally received an email notification from Reefland!

Unfortunately it was sent 8 days ago.

I posted the details in the Admin/Mod forum for you.

Still no email notifications yet on any of the posts from yesterday. They will probably start coming in next weekend sometime if the pattern continues.

We need volunteers to post to this thread so that they can report back in this thread when they receive their email notifications from the board.

Here is a different scenario if you would. Let's say a Highway Patrolman pulls someone over on the side of a busy road. The man gets argumenative and there is no back up in site. Do you A. Keep arguing B. Tell them to calm down or you will have to arrest them (which would probably get them more riled up) or C. Pull your gun and reassert your authority as a man of the law.
Personally I would pick C. If I didn't have my gun out then I would have definately pulled it out if someone came up behind me trying to stop me from arresting this guy, that's just asking to get yourself shot.

They really should put up a sign at the Airport that says no Savies
Are they too lazy to go park their stupid cars in a parking lot and just meet at the front entrance I mean come on kids.

This just goes to show that NJ drivers are the worst drivers.

Henry,

The Highway Patrolman would be acting within his area of responsibility.

Although it doesn't say so in the article, I have a hunch that the biggest problem the sky marshall had was that policing airport parking spaces is not listed in his job description. It was probably a personal thing and the local police, as well as his superiors, probably felt that he was acting irresponsibly outside the area of his job description.

Yes, that helps some but not a lot.

Thank you for participating in this little test. Be sure to post back to this thread when you start receiving the email notifications.

THANKS!

Scott,

I just received a bunch of six email notifications from Reefland. Five for this thread and one for a thread in the Admin/Mod forum. The times ranged from 4.7 hours to 2.4 hours. All six of these notification were sent this morning by the board.

It is still possible that I will be receiving other email notifications from the board days from now that were sent out earlier. My experience has been that there is no pattern to the process other than the fact that they seem to come in bunches.

P.S. -- I will post details of all six notifications in the Admin forum for you.

Scott,

Well, I tried to post the details for you in the Admin forum but I got the following error message:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/reefland/public_html/forum/includes/functions_wysiwyg.php on line 116

Ok, it all makes sense to me now. Just before you received your e-mails, Apache (server software) was restarted and the e-mails came through to you and probably many others. It appears to be a problem with phpmail() which is the function that sends the e-mails out from the board. This is something that we will experience for the coming days until we can get some new software installed on the reefland server.

At least I know what it is now. I can try to minimize the time by restarting Apache occasionally.

Scott,

I posted (separately ) all six email details in the Admin forum. The times ranged from 2 hrs, 24 min to 4 hrs, 42 min.

What's up with that stupid error message I got? Why would posting details from six emails exceed 30 seconds? And where did the 30-second rule come from anyway???

Thanks for posting those Ninong. I am currently talking with our server administrators and the vbulleting developers to try and find out why the change in vbulletin software has caused this problem.

Also, I am not sure what that error message means or why you got it, I will ask the developers about that as well.

Thanks,
Scott

The error message means that the details from six emails was too much for the software to handle because it exceeded a program maximum of 30 seconds execution time.

So...

Is the 30 second limit something new?

Why does it take longer than 30 seconds in the first place to read details of six emails? What if someone wanted to post a really long thread, such as a copy of a complete article?

No it isn't something new but a setting in PHP for the database. My guess is there was just a really poor connection made to the database when you tried to post them. I have a limit set of 10,000 characters allowed in one post however your only contained ~4700 and it shouldn't take vbulletin that long to write 4700 characters to the database.

Still looking though.
