natural sea water
Hi all, I was amember long ago but got wiped out but now I'm back. Have read thru some of the post off and on. Lot of good info out here. Anyways, on to the question. I'm setting up a 150 gallong tank and have been toying with the idea of using fresh sea water as I live close to the pacific ocean ( 5 miles from the pier where I'd collect the water). I've heard both good and bad over the years and was wondering if anybody has any experience/ideas on using the ocean water. I know that Scripps aquarium in San Diego, Calif used to use it years ago before they built their new setup. I have read a bit here and there and have been told to let the collected water sit in the dark for a few weeks to settle anything out and then skim off the top for the water to use. Any help/ adice on using this water would be appreciated. Also, with using natural sea water, should I still add addatives as normal, ie calcium, trace elements, etc. Thanks for any replys.
