    Comp crashed. Won't even boot in safe mode...

    Sup all! Long time no talk.

    Machine = HP
    OS = Win XP

    If gives me a error on a blue screen says something like "unmountable boot memory"
    Tells me to hit F8 for advanced boot options. However none of them will even allow me to open Windows. I just end up back at the blue error screen. I'm thinkn I just need use to use that restore disk or whatever it is that they send with your new comp. However I dont think HP sent one. Anybody have one or can make a copy of one for me? If so shoot me a email.

    the restore/reboot is located on the start menu there is no disk

    Hey SHOG!!!

    sounds like a bad RAM scenario to me... Or it could be the CMOS when you turn on the computer do you hear any BEEPS? If so how many? that will help me tell you whats going on.

    When I get home tonight I will check into the beeps. If there are a bunch of different noises I will take a mpeg with our camera and send it to you and let you decide what the beeps are. lol. thanks!

    Ok first I listened to my comp that works to see what the beep would sound like. The comp that is not working at all does not beep at all.
    It says a problem was detected and windows was shut down to prevent further damage. That i should check for any new hardware that may have been recently installed (which there has not been) and to try to open widnows in safe mode. When I try to open Win in any mode (last known good settings, vga mode, safe mode, etc...) it says "unmountable_boot_volume" on a royal blue screen. there is also all kinds of other stuff but that is the error it shows. Hope this helps. Personally I think the machine must have gota virus and the HD needs a reformat. Just a guess...

    Just today I was thinking of that Fed Exp mantis shrimp trap fiasco.

    May I make a suggestion? Buy yourself a Mac. I have about 6 now at home and at work and have become something of an OS X geek.

    It has changed my life completely. Almost as much as having 3 kids. The computers are nice, but it is the operating system that makes it a pure joy to use.

    Ultimately, it is a unix machine, which means it is infinitely customizable and the computer works for you rather than the other way around.

    And I am still greatfull. If you ever need one besure to let me know as I now have a new one and would be more then happy to send it your way.

    Mac, I will consider one the next time I buy a new machine. They sure look killer too.

    Hey Shog... Sorry I didn't get back right away.

    if you restart your computer and you do not get any beeps then it is a Hardware issue for sure.

    You can try and clear CMOS and start over. There is a jumper on your motherboard, usually it is all by itself in a corner and there will be a plastic square on top of 1 of the pins then there will be another pin right next to it. You can use the jumper to connect the 2 pins and leave it connected for about 10-15 sec then put the jumper back the way it was. MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS WITH THE POWER OFF AND COMPUTER UNPLUGGED!!! I think the jumper is usually the J1 or J2 on hte mainboard.

    Once you've done that try and turn the computer on again and see if you get any beeps 1 beep means the POST completed successfully anything else means more trouble.

    Keep me posted I'll check back frequently.

    I went to hp.com last night and emailed them about my problem. Here is what they said...

    Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
    I see that you are getting the Unmountable Boot Volume error.
    To alleviate this issue the Recovery Console CD is needed. To order
    the Recovery Console CD, call HP Customer Care at 1-800-474-6836.
    Once you have received the Recovery Console CD, follow the instructions
    that ship with it to resolve the issue.

    What do you think?

    Sounds like a KNOWN issue to me. And clearing C-mos won't take care of it then. I'd ask around and see if you can find that recovery disk. If not go ahead and get it from HP. 5-10 Bux is ALOT cheaper then a new PC.

    BTW Macs are cool for Video editing and heavy Graphics, but you can't beat a PC for GAMING!!!!!!

    Have you consulted "www.google.com"
    I love this web site when I have computer related issues. I did a quick look up with the following info: "unmountable boot memory"
    There was a lot of info pertaining to others having this same problem.
    I am not sure how computer savy you are but there are a lot of things you could check out.
    My initial guess is either a memory problem or hard drive problem.
    If you are going to reset the CMOS some PC's do not have the jumpers as stated above. Some have a small button that you just have to hold in.

    One Beep Two Beeps and more

    So what does the beeps mean. I am currently getting one beep.

    Indeed it was a bad HD. Gramps had one laying around and gave it to me. Fixxed the problem.
