How To Help A Loved One to Love your Aquaria
Reefkeeping is my favorite hobby...it helps me relax after a long day at work. There's not many more things I'd like to do than to do stuff for my tank(s). But, my wife calls it "an addiction" and "frivilous". She lets me keep it, but she likes to gripe about it sometimes. Any suggestions about how to get her involved to where it's her hobby too? Or maybe just so that she accepts it and likes it?
It might be helpful to know that I'm newlywed (7 mos.).....haha. Thanks! |

I have been working on a few different things. To get her more involved you can get her to have a little input on when you buy livestock like wow i really like that fish and wow what a great looking coral .If its compatible with your system you can buy it and forever loath on her on how she made a amazing impact on your system and how you would of never of made such a choice . You need to create a false sense of well being and how shes the ducks nuts when it comes captive reef care and biological harmony.
PS Never tell her the actual cost of anything. Tell her that the beauty of your reef shows no comparison to the beauty you see when you see that glimmer in her eyes. Hope this helps .... |

Wow... That is EXACTLY rule #1 and Rule #2. Next is take her to the LFS with you and have her pick out things for your Reef. Especially the "flowers" things like frogspawn and Hammer Corals really "kinda" look like a Bouqet. BUT ABOVE ALL ELSE OBEY RULE #1 |

As a wife I'll tell you something. We had a freshwater tank for about 2 yrs. and I thought it was kind of dull, nothing pretty(we had snakeheads first, then oscars). But when he said he wanted to switch to salt water I was skeptical I heard they were alot of work, and I didnt want to be stuck with all the work. Well he got me all kinds of books(he know I like to read) this way i could research what we were getting into. See he takes care of the tests and all the mechanical stuff, and I do all the research. This works well for us, when one of sees something we might like I get to see if it will be compatible with what we have. It's a system that lets us both be involved in the entire process. I hope this helps u some. ![]() |
