2 questions=2 posts?

yeah, I'm from northern utah (i know odd place to get into the hobby), and unless i go to Salt lake (2hour there 2hours back) i don't know of any other place to buy stuff (ok mail order). Plus, i have a few questions; like if i wanted to start a Kelp forest tank rather then a reef tank what would it entail? one comment for the do-it-yourselfers. because of a few different plastic vendors in northern utah i think i could order 4 4'x8' quarter inch sheets of poly ethenelyne. they said that the plastic shouldn't leech any thing, but i hesistate to really just go out and try. but i did price it out, for me to make a reinforced 8'x4'x4' fish tank (yes i am using aquarium caulks) it would be just under 1000.00

Polyethylene is not clear and it is quite flexible. It is the material that trashcans are made from. It would have to be quite thick to withstand the pressure at 4' depth. They do make large Polyethylene vats for mixing that would probably be more suitable. Sheets of Polyethylene are usually welded together as most adhesives will not adhere to them.

It would entail an enormous amount of money to construct a very large, very deep tank. It would also require an enormous chiller to maintain the tank at temperatures in the 55-65 degree Fahrenheit range.

Kelp forests are not tropical. They only occur in cold, nutrient-rich coastal waters such as Monterey Bay.
