Any serious golfers here? Need help with picking a driver shaft...
I am currently looking to buy a new driver but I am not sure what type of shaft I should get. Im pretty new and my drive is usually from 210 to 240 or so. I currently swing a Taylor Made 300 8.5* with a S-90 stiff shaft.
My club head speed us around 90-95 MPH. What flex of a shaft do you think would help me most? Thanks, SHOG ![]()

There are way too many factors involved in this for a short answer on what to buy. Swing speed, current trajectory, desired directory, shaft flex, shaft length, kick point, shaft material, clubhead design/size, etc. And to make matters worse all of these things vary by Manufacturer, A Taylor Made regular flex may be a firm for Callaway.
Your best bet is to find a local Golf Pro that can analyze your swing and help you select what works for you. I can tell you what I use and have used but it will probably be little help. I am more of a find something that works and stick with it golfer. I am still playing a set of Ping Eye 2's that I got in 1991 and I love them.

Now there is nothing at all wrong with watching the skill these professional golfers have developed during the many years of playing the game.

orion hit the nail on the head...
as a general rule. unless your swing speed is over 100 i would steer away from the stiff flex. For example, i have a swing speed of 104 and use the alida 350 stiff (ping I3 driver) however these clubs also came with a bimetric stiff, which even with my swing speed was like swinging a 2x4. if possible you need to try the different shafts. and better yet would be to do it at a pro shop. |

This is really the input I was looking for. I have also read that unless you have the swing speed like you where saying that your average golfer needs something with around 10* loft or greater to get the ball carry that these new clubs are made to do. As for the pro shop I just was not willing to pay the new club prices that you find there. Not to mention I am left handed so finding places with clubs for guys like me are tuff. Since I posted the original thread I bought a brand new Cobra 400SZ 10.5* regular for $215 on ebay! I feel like I made a very good decision and will be very happy. What do you think? SHOG ![]()

not a bad buy. just start hitting the driving range. it will take some time to adjust to the huge head on that club.
