SAN LEANDRO
Driver loses control of car, hits 3 houses

A San Leandro man lost control of his car and plowed through his closed garage door before going out of control and hitting three homes on both sides of the street, authorities said Monday.

The crash occurred at about 3:10 p.m. Saturday on Cornell Street in San Leandro when Shuzi Lee, 61, backed his Honda into his garage and closed the door, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Lee hit the back wall of the garage, then put the car in drive, crashed through the garage door and hit a home across the street, the CHP reported.

Lee apparently then put the car in reverse, and it hit a wooden fence and a home next door to Lee's home, the CHP said. He then apparently put the car back into drive, sending it across the street again, where it hit a third house and a car parked in the driveway, the CHP said. No one was injured. There was moderate damage to both cars and to two homes and minor damage to two other homes. The cause of the crashes is under investigation, and Lee was not cited.

I wonder if he ever heard of turning off the ignition key? He'll probably say that all that time he thought his foot was on the brake.

I can just vision this happening too. I am sure it was pretty scary for anyone who saw it at the time but to see a car running back and forth across the street slamming into cars and homes has got to be a funny picture; especially since no one was hurt.

I have already seen a car running back and forth across a street crashing into parked cars but no one was in the car at the time. I find it extremely hard to imagine that someone could be in control of a car that hits two parked cars on opposite sides of the street AND runs into three homes on opposite sides of the street, crossing the street twice in the process. To say nothing of the fact that the guy started out with a bang by driving through his closed garage door.

San Francisco has some steep hills and you would be amazed how many out-of-towners fail to grasp the concept of "curbing your wheels." Some idiots actually reverse the procedure. It just doesn't dawn on some people that if you are aimed downhill you turn your steering wheel in the direction of the curb until the front of your front curbside tire touches the curb and if you are aimed uphill you turn your wheel until the rear of your front tire touches the curb. They know they're supposed to curb their wheels because they see all those traffic signs warning you to "CURB YOUR WHEELS." It just seems to escape them that there are two different ways of doing that depending on whether you are parked uphill or downhill.

Sound like someone needs to go back to driving 101 .

Someone that was in the car and did all that shouldn't even be allowed to drive again.

Erm, why do you have to "curb" your tires? a car by design shouldn't be able to move when in first gear or in park because the engine wont move, also with the handbrake on you shouldn't have problems with rolling back on the hill..

I remember when I was first learning to drive, I stalled the car on a HUGE hill and totally missed the brake when I went to slame my foot on it, but the car just lurched forward and stayed still, didn't roll back the first gear was engaged and the car just sat there.

I was just learning in a manual car and was trying to do a hill start on a HUGE hill, that experiance stopped be doing hill starts without the hand brake for about 6 months but it was sorta kewl

It's the law in San Francisco. Not curbing your tires on a hill will result in a traffic ticket.

It doesn't work that way. Cars jump out of gear on steep hills all the time and parking brakes fail. That's why they wrote the law.

LMAO....You got to be kidding me! Unless someone played a joke on him and rigged his car (that would seem hard to do too in this case) I dont see how he could not be responsible
