My mother has a freshwater pond in her backyard. It is getting some heavy green algae in the water column. Are there any suggestions as far as products or care that will help clear this up??..any suggestions appreciated.....

Water Hyacinth will suck up the nutrients in the water like nothing else. Tremendous natural filters. They are the plants that float on the water with big water filled bulbs. You could also get some Water lettuce and Lily pads to cover the water surface, which will shade the water column and adsorb more nutrients and sunlight. My parents have a small pond that I made for them, and I've never had to add any chemicals, just use a lot of plant life.Originally Posted by danieljames68
You can add barley in the water too this will eliminate the algae also in combo with water changes. I belive the name of the product is Algro im not positive
You can also add some submersable plants that will help also like stated above.
Yes there are some comercial algae killers out there but I prefer to keep things natural without chemicals.
