...people kill people.
Oh, and they also kill harmless marine mammals, too: http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg.../SHOPPER07.TMP ![]()

I'm afraid you missed the message! I am not a member of the N.R.A. and am not in favor of allowing the current ban on assault weapons to expire, as it surely will since the N.R.A. puppets in the Republican leadership of the House of Representatives have vowed to refuse to allow the bill extending the ban to even come up for a vote in the House. How convenient for the President. He promised when he was running for office that he was in favor of extending the ban on automatic assault weapons but now he won't have to take sides at all thanks to his Republican compatriots in the House. All those "sportsmen" need their Tech 9's and AK47's for hunting and stuff. Oh, well... I just didn't want you to think I was as demented as good old boy Charlton Heston. ![]()

I couldnt agree more with the ban on automatic weapons. It's the fact that some day the government will try to take away right to bear arms because of stupid decisions by stupid people. It's inevitable. I am all for gun control, hard time for gun crimes etc. But I'm from Arkansas. I know people who actually still live from the meat they kill. They need their guns and to be honest with you I need mine too. I'm a small guy by comparison to most and if an intruder broke into my house I might not be able to properly defend my family without one depending on the situation. The process for owning a weapon of any kind should be a rigorous series of evaluations, background checks and tests. Humans by nature are destructive. I'm ashamed to be one at times and there are always going to be bad eggs. As sad as it is, just because one psycho shot a sea lion should have nothing to do with "good people" owning firearms.........this was a ramble and I could go on all day. There is a smart way to do things we just need to figure out the proper way to go about them.

I just want to add that I don't mean to offend anyone by my statements. I truly do feel pain when things like that happen. You know.....if something happend to just completely wipe human beings off this planet it would be the most perfectly beautiful place in the universe for sure. While we're here though I'm gonna be able to defend my family and home.

THat is rotten.... Sea Lions are such MENACING AGGRESIVE CREATURES too... Probably some IDIOT that was drunk and just wanted to try out his new TOY...
However I do believe that responsible people havea right to bear arms... And statistically CANADA has more guns per capita then the good ole USA, and they have much LOWER crime then we do???? |

I am completely for letting the "assault" weapons ban expire. Thier definition of assault is ridiculous and based wholly on aesthetic issues. Last time I checked, there wasn't a slurry of bayonet attacks before the bill, and hasn't been a reduction in attacks since. All told, the banned "assault" weapons accounted for something like 5% of gun crimes before the ban, and has remained stagnant.
The people who use real assault weapons for crimes don't go through legal channels to get them. Gun control doesn't work. Look at the UK, and at Australia. Crime is up, specifically crimes involving guns. I own a few of these 'evil weapons' myself. Do I hunt, sure sometimes. But these are not for hunting, they are for fun. No different than a fast motorcycle, car or boat; if used improperly they can result in grave consequences. However, I don't see people running to ban sportscars. The true fully-automatic weapons will always be available on the black market to criminals that need them. Friends of mine made thousands in high school running guns that were smuggled from China and vietnam. The reality of it is, these guns are still sold. FWIW - there is a huge difference between an AK47 and the look-alikes that fall under the 'assault' weapons ban. Automatic guns have been available only with proper tax stamp and backround check long prior to this ban. The only difference between a semi-auto hunting rifle and an 'assault' weapon as it's defined under this ban is an aesthetic one. Addition - That all being said, I will vote for Kerry because I am 100% against shrub forcing his morals (at least claimed morals), religion and control down my throat. I will continue to support the NRA, and write letters to lawmakers asking for the ban to sunset, but I will likely move out of the country if I have to deal with another 4 years of Bush. The guy is a complete moron. |
