SJ,
It sounds like you normally have dial up access from the second PC.
If that's the case...does the second PC perhaps not have a network card?
(NIC card)

...needs one.

Is the new router a wireless?

How is all this hooked up? You should have both pc's hooked to the router, which is then hooked to the modem...

I don't know how XP does it, I run win2kpro... but in 2kpro you have to set up the pcs to allow access from other computers (or users actually) ..... you would tell it user names/passwords?

What exactly is it that you are doing, and what exactly is happening?

i had the modem (RR) hooked to my pc/....
i unhooked it from my pc, hooked it to the wireless router, ran another cable back to my pc.... ran a second cable to the other pc.. powered everything back up/// got on the net with my main pc.. went to the other pc.... and it shows this page cannot be displayed screen when you look on the router, it shows all connections made.. the net, and both pcs..
i didnt configure anything when i hooked up to my main pc from the router, do i need to network my pcs together, if so how do i do that?
both pcs are basically identical,,,
Dell 2400's
it is a wireless router, but i didnt buy any of the wireless cards.. i figured i wou;d just hardwire it, since i had all that stuff, and those cards are expensive..

Are you using a cable\network card or USB port?

dhcp should have configured everything...
you shouldn't require configuring much at all.

go to a command prompt (start, then click run, type "cmd" <no quotes> hit enter
and then type:

ipconfig /release (in xp it might be /release all)

then type ipconfig /renew

see what happens

I would say the problem lies in the router... At least with Mine I had to tell it what computers were connected and what "permissions" they had!
