Dont know how i did it or what i did.. but i got both my pcs hooked up to the router.. one is even wireless
i do not have the pcs networked though??

not sure how ro do that/????

But anyhow.. the Geek with bad teeth at Best buy told me i needed nework security... im sure it was a sales pitch.. but both pcs only have norton antivirus???

The router is actually providing security for you so yeah you where right about the sales pitch. Norton anti-virus is also a good thing to have.

What are you wanting to accomplish in the end? Just internet access for both PCs or do you also want to be able to share files? What versions of windows do the PCs have?

Unless you are looking for complete and total security from the outside world the router, in most cases, is safe enough. No need for anyother firewall devices or programs, unless you want them. Sure, someone could get through the router but they would have to very serious about wanting to get past it. Its not something you can generally just stumble past.

I wouldnt sweat others latching on to your wireless signal unless you start to find a group of people sitting in front of your house on laptops

A quick and easy way to keep the average unwanted person from jumping on your wireles network is to change the SSID in your router to something other then "default". Just make sure you also make the name change on the PC with the wirelss card.

The router is a firewall so both your PCs are already behind it. Now isn't that easy?

LOL!!!

A routers firewall is a basically a way to hide YOUR PC on the internet. Think stealth bomber type stuff. A software firewall is like a Bolted door, you can see it and will probably wonder what is behind it... The router is MUCH MUCH better in my opinion.

As far as your wireless network, I don't think you need to worry about anything, like was mentioned in a previous post, UNLESS you see people camping out in your yard with laptops...
