I quit

I was excited about this job.........the guy seemed at first like he would listen.
I got about half of his tanks looking awesome. I cleaned them out, painted the backs black and replaced all the equipment. I added a powerhead to each and they were just starting to cycle. I felt good cause I knew they were parasite free and were being maintained correctly. I kept the gravel vacuumed in the others and got rid of the cyano. Today when I got there I was pretty shocked. He didn't like the clean gravel look so he scooped some out of his other tanks that were ich infested and covered my new gravel with the old junk adding plenty of infested water at the same time. So now all my nice clean tanks are back where they were before I got there. On top of that 4 of the powerheads I setup were gone. I asked him where they went and his reply was......I was made an offer and money is money.
The next customer that came in he went to talk to..........I calmly walked to the back where my hours sheet is and wrote the following.

You care more about money than the precious animals you keep, for this reason I can't work for you. Thanks for the job but not the experience. Good luck with everything.

Then I walked out.

I was just hoping to make a difference in this shop. I really feel bad for the customers who think he's some sort of expert and actually purchase anything living from him.

it is sad, but business is business....
no matter how much we like or dislike.. these stores are not homes to the animals, but stop off points...
have you ever been to a wholesalers shop?

those are insane nasty bad...
the only decent one i have seen is SEAGREST farms.....the other 3 or 4 i have been too, are extremely bad!

the work on numbers, not quality...

they buy 400 of something.... for 2 dollars each... sell them for 5 bucks each.. and hope atleast 100 of them sell/survive...
your boss, works on quick sales.. fish in.. displayed.. sell..... no time for wasted product and man hours...

Well I think that I'm very business minded and while I do understand what you're saying.........at the same time I understand that serious people like Ninong for example need a shop where they can chat with the owner and not get BS'd. They need to know where the animals came from and that they have been cared for along the way. They wanna know how the shops run, what the water params are kept at but most of all they want the peace of mind to know that the animals they are laying down dollars for are healthy. I just can't for the life of me understand why or how anyone who has ever gone in there and knows anything about the hobby would purchase anything from this guy.

Not to sound cocky but I was working on fixing most of these problems.....slowly. I even had customers come in and comment to me how nice everything was looking and how it was also nice to talk to someone who atleast takes the time to explain the whys and hows of the hobby.

The last book the owner read was Martin Moes first book. Don't know how many of you have read Martin Moe......all of you should cause he raised the hobby in its infancy but his writings are somewhat out dated.
