Unhappy Sad day in southeast Louisiana:

We lost six Louisiana National Guardsmen from the same company, Co C, 2nd Bn, 156th Mech Inf Regiment, Houma, LA (part of the 256th Infantry Brigade-Mechanized based in Lafayette, LA): http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/...0108-1940.html

The National Guard and Reserves now make up 42% of the troops in Iraq. If an RA (regular army) unit suffers a hit like this, the casualties come from different towns across America. When a guard or reserve unit is hit, the casualties all come from the same town.

I don't know what to say, George, you know how I feel about this whole mess we are into.

Sorry Nin,

I saw the parents on tv, and felt their saddness and frustration.
It must to horrible to get the press info that nails down the unit and number of casualties...but have to wait for the military to get out the specific "who".

Very sad.

I don't watch the local TV news all that much, so I wasn't aware of it until Saturday morning when color pictures of all six filled the top half of the Times-Picayune (New Orleans) newspaper. I went to the Iraq Casualties website and backtracked to find the first report of it and found that it was originally reported Jan. 6th. without identifying the unit and then on Jan. 7th. the unit was identified. Of course, as you know, news of everything that goes on over there filters out within hours, sometimes minutes, via the internet and email. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of blog sites reporting news -- and propaganda -- on a daily basis. Reading some of these sites can be emotionally draining.

You can follow all of the casualties and related news as it happens here: http://icasualties.org/oif/

I see where the military is beginning to shut down some of the military bloggers: http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...NGC8ANTGD1.DTL
