Glad you asked!
![]() She's doing fine and has been in the Outer Bay exhibit at the Monterey Aquarium for almost six months now: http://www.mbayaq.org/ However, this past Wednesday night a soupfin shark swam a bit too close to her so she killed it. ![]()

"Diving with the White Shark"
Not sure if that would be cool or not? It sounds cool but I think I'd totally freeze if I was wet with it. ![]() |

The Monterey Bay Aquarium staff determined that the great white was now actively hunting the other sharks in the exhibit. She had killed a couple of soupfin sharks within the past few weeks and they were concerned that she was growing so fast that she might soon reach a size that would make it difficult for them to safely remove her.
She was 62 lbs. when they received her six months ago and she was 162 lbs. today when they released her back into the ocean. http://www.mbayaq.org/cr/whiteshark.asp

George,
I think both parties are better off with the release of the Great White. ![]()

In six months, it went from 62 lbs. to 162 lbs. It was really just a few months old when they got it.

I'll bet the other Sharks are happy to see her gone!!! Geesh! I think that ACTIVELY HUNTING your tank mates is a pretty smart way to get put back in the wild!
I am happy Mbay learned a lot from the experience, but I agree a Great White sure would be a lot to handle long term! Can you imagine how big that would have gotten in another 6 months? It may have reached 300lbs!!! That is a BIG FISH! |

She's doing great!
Her transmitter, which was pre-programmed to be released after 30 days, was released 25 miles off the California coast near Santa Barbara, some 200 miles south of where she was released a month ago: http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...AGBICIUV81.DTL

the great white, just looking at it seems more fierce than all other sharks .We are members of monterey bay aquarium and go the once a month. even my kids think we go to much when they say that I say Ill go by myself . Ipersoally will not get sick of going there Anyway seeing the great white up close was awsome. and month after month you could tell she was getting bigger. I thought that she was going to snatch one of the sea turtle that is in the tank.
