Cheney's "knee" is acting up again according to his official spokesperson:
(06-24) 18:21 PDT Vail, Colo. (AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney visited a renowned orthopedist Friday while in town for a forum held by a conservative think tank, his spokeswoman said. Cheney met with Dr. Richard Steadman to evaluate an old football injury to his knee, Cheney spokeswoman Lea Anne McBride said. Steadman focuses primarily on sports medicine, and his Steadman Hawkins Clinic has treated a number of famous athletes. In 2003, Los Angeles Lakers player Kobe Bryant was in Vail for knee surgery at the clinic when he was accused of raping a hotel worker. Cheney was scheduled to attend the American Enterprise Institute World Forum, which was started in 1982 by former President Gerald Ford. How many "knee" events has the Vice President had so far? Does this mean his "knee" is in its "last throes?" According to Arianna Huffington: Vice President Dick Cheney was taken to the cardiac unit of the Vail Valley Medical Center Friday. Contrary to Associated Press reports that he went to see orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Steadman, at the Steadman Hawkins clinic for a knee injury, Vice President Cheney passed through the Steadman Hawkins clinic and the Colorado Mountain Medical Center to get to the cardiac unit to see Dr. Jack Eck and his team. The Vice President checked into the hospital under the name of Dr. Hoffman. More from Arianna. Still more: According to this 2001 article by Arianna, Cheney has had only four heart attacks. I thought it was more??? Maybe they were reported as indigestion by his official spokesperson???

That's how Lea Anne McBride described Arianna Huffington's report that Cheney had visited cardiologist Dr. Jack Eck at a hospital in Vail.
According to Cheney's official spokesperson: "The vice president had an appointment with a renowned orthopedist in Vail to evaluate an old football injury." That's reassuring. I was beginning to wonder why they would bother to lie about such a simple thing as the Vice President of the United States getting an EKG. People might jump to conclusions and think that his pacemaker was in its last throes. Maybe it just needed to be adjusted for the 8500-ft altitude? It's nice to know that Arianna was just making all that stuff up. Cheney did NOT get an EKG. He did not see Dr. Jack Eck. He did not check in as "Dr. Hoffman" (the name of his physician in Washington). Reports from hospital employees that he logged in as "Dr. Hoffman" and stayed exactly 2 hours and 41 minutes are obviously false. Reports that his "breathing was labored" are equally false. I'm sure those false records will now be classified as "Top Secret."

It's really a silly little story but it's sort of funny at the same time. Obviously it was not really a major "heart event" like some of his past "events." They refuse to admit that he was checked out by Dr. Jack Eck. They are sticking to their official story that he just dropped by to visit with his old pal, Dr. Richard Steadman, for evaluation of an old football injury to his knee.
Notice that the official written release is truthful as far as it goes: "The vice president had an appointment with a renowned orthopedist in Vail to evaluate an old football injury." Let's break that down a bit. They're not even claiming that he was actually evaluated by this renowned orthopedist, only that he had an appointment. They're not addressing the reports by hospital personnel that he passed through that part of the hospital on his way to the cardiac care unit where he received an EKG and was evaluated by Dr. Jack Eck. And they are specifically not discussing hospital reports that he registered as "Dr. Hoffman" and remained there for exactly 2 hours and 41 minutes. I remember when he had his pacemaker implanted and Mary Matalin insisted that he had checked into the hospital for "a routine, non-emergency procedure." It would have been more informative to just admit that he was getting a pacemaker. P.S. -- The statement that Arianna's report was "unequivocally false" was made by Lea Anne McBride over the phone to a reporter's request for comment.

Arianna Huffington continues to pour fuel on the fire by pointed out that Dr. Steadman wasn't even at the hospital at all the day Cheney claims to have visited him for his "knee problem." She continues to insist that Cheney has a heart and that he was given a 12-lead EKG and not a "knee evaluation."
The word is that everyone is too afraid to discuss these details -- even with each other, having been told that they’ll be federally prosecuted if they do. My sources tell me that hospital staffers have been deeply unsettled by all this... Check it out: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/theblo...-ita_3461.html Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive!

Cheney could run a marathon if that damn football injury didn't flair up as often as it does and you know it. Also, if I remember correctly the knee is connected to nerves which travel to the brain...you with me? Now those nerves connections obviously go past the heart...duh. Therefore if Cheney had a knee releated nerve blockage somewhere in his chest it is entirely plausible he would clutch his heart and say "Gakkk...My knee!". Cheney IS the heartbeat of America. It was Chevy, but their lineup hasn't been squat for...nevermind that's another post.

P.S. -- Unless a miracle happens in the mid-term elections and the Democrats regain control of the House. Then if a double impeachment happened to succeed in 2007, we would have President Pelosi. Wouldn't that drive the wingnuts crazy! ![]()

07-07) 12:19 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --
Vice President Dick Cheney will undergo a routine exam Friday to check the condition of a high-tech pacemaker that was placed in his chest in June 2001. Cheney spokeswoman Lea Anne McBride said the tests at George Washington University Medical Center would include a physical exam, an electrocardiogram, an echocardiogram and a stress test. The vice president planned to be back at work later in the day, she said. "It's a routine physical," she said. She said the vice president also would have a colonoscopy later this month. Cheney has had four heart attacks, though none as vice president. His last checkup was in May 2004, and determined that his pacemaker, called an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, was working fine and had never had to be activated.
