<sigh>
I've been looking for my last holiday gift for several days now, and nothing has been delivered. When is the last day of Fitzukkah? I have such a hard time keeping track of the holidays... Rebecca PS Little Ricky has been awfully quiet lately, Ninong. ![]() |

Rebecca,
Fitzukkah ended at sundown January 2nd but Abramoffukkah started at sundown January 3rd and runs through sundown January 11th and so far Abramoffukkah has been a blast! ![]() Little Ricky has been busy revising and retracting his previous positions to better suit the needs of his constituents in the 21st century. His previous 13th century ideas haven't worn too well. Did you notice that he has reversed himself on Intelligent Design? Yep, from now on, Ricky says it should NOT be taught in science classes. That is exactly the opposite of his previous position which called for equal treatment of evolution and intelligent design in science classes in public schools. Ricky must be running focus groups in preparation for his futile attempt to keep his seat. ![]() P.S. -- We're celebrating Abramoffukkah in this other thread.

Yes, YES, I read all about Abramoffukkah in the other thread, and it is quite the spine-tingler, isn't it?? Gangland-style mob slayings, formerly religious admins looking not quite so pristine. Has all the makings of one of Scooter Libby's novels, doesn't it??? And while it is QUITE entertaining, and certainly a lovely gift that will likely keep on giving, it's not the one I was anxiously anticipating, if you know what I mean. I was on vacation in Maine for awhile (I don't read newspapers or watch TV while I am there, it's really crazy), so I'm a little behind the times with Fitzmas/Fitzukkah. Does this mean I'm not going to get my present at all??? Or that it's just been delayed again??? |

I was hoping Fitzukkah would be a joyous occasion but so far we haven't gotten anything. I was looking forward to carving a juicy Rovian roast beast for New Year's Eve but I guess we'll have to wait a little longer. I still have confidence that he will deliver something delightful. As far as Abramoffukkah is concerned, it has been extremely delightful so far. I hope we receive lots of nice presents without further DeLay. I guess this is one way to get the little bug chaser's mind off Ronnie Earle? ![]()

ROVE MUST GO
A national survey by pollster Mark Penn shows two-to-one sentiment that not only Rep. Tom DeLay but also top presidential adviser Karl Rove should resign from office. Interviews of 1,003 voters last Nov. 5-16, conducted for the Democratic Leadership Council, showed 59 percent felt Rove should quit while 25 percent said he should not. Comparable figures for DeLay were 63 percent and 24 percent. While DeLay faces trial in Texas after being indicted in a campaign finance controversy, Rove has been investigated but not indicted in the CIA leak case. Penn's poll showed deteriorating Republican support for both Rove and DeLay. GOP votes favored DeLay's resignation, 45 percent to 40 percent, while 35 percent said Rove should go and 43 percent that he should stay.

To help you figure out which moonbat colmunist would dare to say that it's time for Karl Rove to resign, I will give you a few hints.
(1) This columnist and Karl have a symbiotic relationship that goes back a very long way. (2) You might even say that this columnist is Rove's stenographer or, from the columnist's point of view, Rove is his best inside source ever. (3) Rove was fired from Poppy Bush's failed 1992 presidential campaign for leaking damaging information about his boss, the campaign manager, to this columnist. (4) This columnist outed a covert C.I.A. operative in a time of war and then outed her C.I.A. front company at the request of Karl Rove. (5) This traitorous scumbag recently departed CNN, where he was held in captivity for 25 years, for the more hospitable environment of Faux News. Answer: here.

Lemme guess. His surname is common in Slovenia?
In fact, I have a neighbor (my x-schoolmate) that shares the same surname. Suck a small world. ![]() |

It's nice to see that Scooter Libby is using the Nuremberg defense according to documents on file with the Special Counsel. He was only following orders. His "superiors" authorized him to leak information from a classified NIE report.
The trial is scheduled to begin January 8, 2007. If Libby doesn't cut a deal before then and persists with this line of defense, he will have to call Cheney to testify. That raises a lot of interesting questions. I wonder if Cheney will invoke executive privilege? Can you invoke executive privilege in a criminal trial?

I believe the answer can be found in a 1974 decision:
United States vs. Nixon 418 US 683 ![]() oh my. there goes the neighborhood. If revisited, the Brokeback Pond Duck Hunting Duo might need to be seperated.

Still nothing new on Rove, but...
Raw Story is reporting that Valerie Plame Wilson was working on Iran's efforts to obtain WMD at the time she was outed by Scooter Libby and others on instructions from Dick Cheney. According to this report, the damage was much more significant than most people realize.
That could explain why the CIA never released a formal damage assessment report and why they asked the Justice Department to investigate. I wonder if all of these new leaks are somehow related to the mass firings and resignations that have been going on at the Agency since Porter Goss took over?

Pardon me...
Boy howdy.
I can't wait to hear the outrage again from the GOP over Presidential pardons. Clinton had a list. At this rate, Bush will have a veritable NYC phonebook. ![]()

I just googled "lying to the FBI" and found lots of stories about people (e.g., Scooter Libby) who have been charged with making false statements to the FBI. It seems each count can get you 5 years and a $250,000 fine. I couldn't find anything about whether you have to be "under oath" or not. I'm inclined to think that it doesn't matter. Lying is lying and it's a definite no-no when the person you're talking to is a federal law enforcement agent performing his official duties. (Side note: I think the same applies to lying to a Congressional Committee. I don't think it makes any difference at all whether you're under oath or not. You can't lie to Congress and get away with it. Unless you're a Republican donor and oil company CEO.)
So, what's he getting at? Just this. The White House has just "discovered" some 250 pages of "lost" emails from the Office of the Vice President and they have been turned over to the Special Counsel, Patrick Fitzgerald. That little tidbit came out in one of Fitzgerald's court filings today. Haha! Poor Big Time! First he shoots some guy in the face and now the White House is shooting him in the rear end. Wave bye-bye! ![]() So... Even though he wasn't under oath when he lied to the FBI, can't they nail him with something or do they have to get the House to pass a bill of impeachment? Can you indict a sitting vice president for making false statements in an "FBI interview?"

Schrocat,
Do you know any Constitutional lawyers? Find out if a sitting Vice President can be indicted for crimes committed while in office or if he has to be impeached? I don't think you can indict the President or the Vice President while in office unless it's for something they did prior to taking office. I think you have to impeach them first but that's just a guess on my part. ![]()

P.S. I don't know any Constitutional specialists and I wish I did after a cursory Google... . Remember the "Clinton can pardon himself" talk when Starr leaked he was indicting before any impeachment? In the end it doesn't matter, even if all the quails were lined up in a row Bush would pardon Big Time well before he had to pack his toothbrush.

According to one source close to the case,
Rove is providing information on deleted emails, erased hard drives and other types of obstruction by staff and other officials in THE VICE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE! Pentagon sources close to Rove confirmed this account. ![]()

Who managed to get Andy Card to take the fall for the falling poll numbers? He's out!
Karl Rove is proving to be as resilient as a cockroach. He'll probably still be around 10 million years from now. The same may not be true for Big Time now that Karl has decided to throw him under the bus. He better be careful, Big Time shot an old guy in the face for no reason at all.
