Arrow ACLU wants the Supremes to take the Edmonds case:

This should be interesting: http://rawstory.com/news/2005/ACLU_S...ower_0804.html

The unnamed "high-level member of Congress" is actually the Speaker of the House, Denny Hastert. The translated tapes are very interesting indeed, except that they're all classified. The Inspector General's report provided enough detail to figure out what they talked about.

They shouldn't be able to kill litigation just because it may be politically embarrassing. This is an issue that the Supreme Court must address because the administration will be doing this quite a lot now to kill all the other stuff coming out about CIA renditions and Bush's secret directives.

So much stuff hitting the fan lately that it's hard to keep up.

Ok, I didn't want to open a new thread, so here goes:

Quote:
A new provision tucked into the Patriot Act bill now before Congress would allow authorities to haul demonstrators at any "special event of national significance" away to jail on felony charges if they are caught breaching a security perimeter.
This is just funny, because even though I live on the other side of the puddle, I know that:
Quote:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
And this one is funny:
Quote:
"President Bush is committed to protecting the American people's national security as well as their civil liberties," she said.
Even though Dubya claimed it's just a goddamn piece of paper.
