Exclamation Halliburton hates our freedom!

And they hate our troops, too!

Yep, they're still at it. Still selling nuclear reactor components to the enemy. Nothing's changed. I guess this will cause yet another criminal investigation to be opened, not that they ever get anywhere under the present administration. They were doing business with Iran back when Cheney was their Chairman of the Board. He claims he didn't know about it because their Tehran office was opened by one of their offshore subsidiaries. Ha!

Just last week, a National Security Council report said Iran was a decade away from acquiring a nuclear bomb. That time frame could arguably have been significantly longer if Halliburton, whose miltary unit just reported a 284 percent increase in its second quarter profits due to its Iraq reconstruction contracts, was not actively providing the Iranian government with the means to build a nuclear weapon.

(...)

In 1991, Halliburton sold Libya, another country that sponsors terrorism, nuclear detonator devices. The company paid more than $3 million in fines for violating a U.S. trade embargo that President Reagan imposed in 1986 because of Libya's ties to terrorist activities.

P.S. -- Nothing's changed, except for the fact that they feel untouchable now.

If things get too tight, he could always pull a Nixon and just fire everybody.

Reminds me of Richard Nixon's Saturday Night Massacre back in October 1973. The special prosecutor, Archibald Cox, had just issued a subpoena to Nixon requesting copies of the tape recorded Oval Office conversations. This was on a Friday afternoon. Everyone thought there would be little news over the weekend.

Wrong!

The very next evening, Nixon ordered his Attorney General, Elliot Richardson, to fire Cox. Richardson refused and resigned. Nixon then ordered the Deputy Attorney General, William Ruckelshaus, to fire Cox. Ruckelshaus refused and resigned. Nixon then called the Solictor General and ordered him as acting head of the Justice Department to fire Cox. He complied.

The Congress and the entire nation went beserk! Congress, including most Republicans, was infuriated by this gross abuse of Presidential power. Nixon went on TV and gave his "I'm not a crook" speech. It didn't work. Nobody was buying it. I can't even remember how many different bills of impeachment were being drawn up in the House; all I remember is that when he did a head count in the Senate to see if he would be convicted, he found only four Senators willing to acquit. He resigned in disgrace rather than face certain impeachment. Gerry Ford, who was never elected to any national office, became President and almost immediately issued a full Presidential pardon for any crimes that Nixon may have committed. And if you're too young to remember how Ford got to be Vice President, that was because Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned in a plea bargain deal with prosecutors in Maryland where he was about to be indicted on bribery charges. The bribery happened while he was Governor of Maryland.

Bonus question: Do you remember the name of the guy who fired special prosecutor Archibald Cox? Here's a clue: He was nominated for the U.S. Supreme Court by Ronald Reagan to show the Republican Party's gratitude for his many years of "loyal" service. He was NOT confirmed. The vote was 58-42 against.

His name: Robert Bork

P.S. -- You probably should have posted this in the Who Did It thread about Rove and Novakula. This is supposed to be a Cheney/Halliburton update.

I don't suppose it's John Kerry by any chance?

He was a schoolmate of Dubya's (two years ahead) and a member of Skull & Bones.

Dubya was just following in Poppy's footsteps and Poppy was just following in his daddy's footsteps. All three of them were members of Skull & Bones.

The real power brokers are the guys who go to the Bohemian Grove every year.
