Well, I just talked to George on the phone and yes, they did loose power about 4:30 am. Everyone is OK and they didn't get any flooding so far. George said it's about 4" on the grass but that's just from the rain they had. Thank god for small miracles that the eye of the storm for some reason turned more north and actually drifted to the east a bit, hence putting it far more to the east of them, otherwise you never know what could've happened.
George told me that the eye is moving now to hit directly where Skipper lives in Mississippi. Lets pray that he gets through this safely.

I was very relieved when I heard George's voice on the phone...
I forgot to mention in the previous post that George told me that the power may not be restored for a month, they just don;t know.
I will keep calling him and post updates as it will become available.

Thank goodness they are safe. My thoughts and prayers also go out to Skipper and his family. In a couple of days (tomorrow night at earliest I believe) we will be feeling the grunt of Katrina in northern KY. They are anticipating floods and pwer outages here as well.

I hope that monster looses it's punch by the time it gets anywhere near you guys. If you get flooded, just get your butt over here for a few days. As you know I have a place for you and Michelle to stay.

I hope it looses it's punch too. We had about 1" of rain yesterday, they are calling for another 1-3" tonight and that is before Katrina gets here which could be another 2-3" from what I can gather. That is possibly 7" of rain in 3 days, 6" of it in a 24 hour period.

We're seeing our first signs of wind and bad weather here. I just took all our windchimes off the porch and all that jazz. The tornados can get ugly around our part of the world but that's just part of living here to all of us. I'm glad George is alright and hope everyone else in the path that we know and love will be ok as well.

I just got off the phone with Skipper he lives in Hattiesburg Missisipi. He and his wife are fine He is w/out electricity and the eye of the storm is about 20mi (i think he said w/sw) of his house but he told me that it just recently started calming down so I do believe he has been through the worst of it

Very good point Gene!
First priority is their health, they still may very well have a long road ahead of them consider a family like this w/out electricity, no way to get around because of the floods (likely) even if they can get around they probably will have to go hundreds of miles to find gas and even if they do find gas then not only will it be very expensive but they very well may have used a whole tank of gas+ to get gas...its very much a catch 22. Gene definately keep us updated on George and his family's status and anything we can do to help! Thanks Gene!

Will do, Rocky.

I can only release information that George says is OK to post for me so I will do my best to keep you guys informed. Thanks for letting me know about Skip and his family, so far we are ahead...
The fact that is calming down a bit sometimes can be decieving though, there is a back wall to content with, as you know, but I really hope that the worst is over for Skip.

It is actually best that way! He does not need a bunch of ppl calling him right now, just someone that can relay the circumstances.

Hi guys,

Just an update of sorts, as promised. Just got of the phone with George and he and his family are just fine, albeit without power, but they got their generator up to speed and everything is fine right now. George sounded really well and his only concern was about the power and when it is going to be restored.
I'll keep everyone that is concerned about it abreast as I talk with him tomorrow sometime.
I thank you all in his behalf for your concerns and well wishes.

I am glad to hear George and family are doing okay!

YAY for Skipper too! I hope this thing just flat out fizzles away... I am afraid to look at the news, I don't want to see how bad New Orleans got hit... I heard something like 40% of all imports and exports go thru there. The secondary effects of this storm could be HUGE for all of us, and not just in gas prices either!

Very glad to hear all our Gulf Coast friends are doing as well as can be expected.

I saw the news this AM and the footage of all the water is unbelievable and amazing in a disater sort of way. Hopefully they'll get all the infrastructure sorted sooner rather than later.

Hey Gang!

If anybody talks to Ninong again tell him I'm the unluckiest phone user in Florida, I keep getting ye olde "all circuits are busy"...

*Update!
Nevermind...finally got through and he wasn't home!
He's probably out splashing Sheppard Smith with his car.

Yeah me and Gene where talking about that and I think the military has taken control of alot of the telephone circuits in the area for emergency use only, I have also heard that martial law has been declared in the New Orleans area. Keep on trying though Schrocat you will eventually get through....we had the same problem.

For ANYONE who has fallen to hardship from this disaster food, water, and MRE (basically meals vacuum packed in foil) all 3 of these items will be given out by many Red Cross vans that you will see travelling through the neighborhoods to people in need. If you are there and you have many others to feed then let them know how many you have to feed and they will compensate for that many people...this is a FREE service, do NOT feel like you are above this, worst case scenario you could give it to others that may need it worse.

For those that would like to make a monetary contribution I suggest directly to redcross

https://www.redcross.org

There is a Donate Now button/link right on the main page that will take you through it. This is probably the best way for us to help those in the path of the hurricane in the most simplistic form, they have a dropdown menu showing where you can designate your donation which I used Hurricane 2005 relief There is a minimum donation of $5 and I think even just that would help....if just a 1/10th of the members here donated that we could really help alot of unfortunate people out there.

Remember we have our own out there! Please guys find it in your heart and wallet to help out if you can.

I hope his tank doesn't boil with the a\c not working...

wow unbelievable how badly new orleans got hit. thousands of people trapped in their attics, water everywhere you look outside, no power, no water to drink. kind of ironic that theres 3 feet of water outside and yet no clean drinking water. Now everyones got to evacuate the city or theyll die of thirst instead of from the acttual hurricane! I heard a wal-mart was letting people come in and just take whatever they want. thats good.

I wish I could say that. I couldn't get thru today at all and probably won't try untill tomorrow morning. As Rocky said, the military may be taken over some circuits but I think it just plain too busy for the lines to handle amount of calls that are trying to get through. It;s such a mess down there...
