America the forgotten
To my knowledge so far no other countries have come to the aid of America after the hurricane. How many dollars and how much manpower did we send when the Tsunami hit? What about all the help we've given other countries during hard times? Where's Europe and all the countries that would be living under the Nazis now had we not stepped in....that's just one example. We need to shut off our borders...shut off our trade and just plain shut ourselves off from the rest of the world. Forget em and start lookin out for #1...They all hate us anyway.

No forget that.....this is a WORLD problem. I'm watching the news and the footage of the helicoptors flying over the water full of gas, oil and sewage. If we don't fix this crap the gulf and many many beautiful areas around the world are gonna have major problems.

I think you are right! We brought BILLIONS to the phillipines last year! What comes around, goes around! We may not be so willing to help next time! I also think it is time to CUT OFF AID to everyone! We can use those BILLIONS of dollars to help our own citizens.

I heard this morning when some were wondering why we were not there already helping, that our federal goverment and even our provincial goverment here in Manitoba, offered to do what ever they could. I assume that any help would be requested when and if its needed.

I get mixed emotions with a thread like this. W/out getting too deep into the pot I will say that we are still probably the most liberal country in the world and for that I am appreciative! I heard on the news today that some where saying that the reasons why alot of other countries havent helped is because they believe that its our problem because the US is the one that contributed most to global warming, which causes the extreme natural disasters such as Katrina, while I believe those kind of statements are flat out inhumane, they very well may be true. Then on the flipside I also see many people escaping their countries to come to ours. You could also consider countries which we may have helped out drastically cuz we are a wealthy nation but the 3rd world countries that we help out are not near as wealthy and cannot afford to compensate for what we have done. I think its sad that we have to live by so many politics but I also see it being inevitable.

Papa Doug- I saw our neighbor to the north had sent some help! Where I live in MI we think of Canada as the USA North! We even take Canadian coins here just like it were US issue! The countries I am surprised to NOT SEE are GB, Spain, France, POLAND, and other EU members. It seems to me these countries STILL receive a fair amount of AID from the US, whether it is monetary or paid for in the blood of our citizens. I wonder how long it would take for these countries to start feeling the effects of the US suspending its export of.... say CORN? Or WHEAT? Or Beans? Or BEEF? How about Poultry? I may be off a little, but I think the good ole USA is a MAJOR producer of food products, I know we produce WAY more then we consume as a nation. Maybe FRANCE can pick up the slack if we can't ship out all that grain! Seems to me the world would be a little concerned about the damage to a port that provides fully 40% of all the USA's import and EXPORT! We are gong to be feeling the effects of this one for a LONG LONG time guys!

Many of us think we should be USA north.
I see even Quebec offered anything they needed. Quebec Hydro has offered its crews to help with power. Several provinces have offered different services. BC has already sent an elite urban search and rescue team. Sheez, I would drive there in my car to help haul some of those poor souls from New Orleans, if we were allowed, as I,m sure many others would. My comments on the horribly slow evacuation is for another thread though. It brings tears to ones eyes.

This from MSNBC late afternoon:
Venezuela, a target of frequent criticism by the Bush administration, offered humanitarian aid and fuel. Venezuela’s Citgo Petroleum Corp. pledged a $1 million donation for hurricane aid. With offers from the four corners of the globe pouring in, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has decided “no offer that can help alleviate the suffering of the people in the afflicted area will be refused,” State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Thursday. However, in Moscow, a Russian official said the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency had rejected a Russian offer to dispatch rescue teams and other aid. Condolences and cash On Tuesday, President Vladimir Putin sent condolences to President Bush and said Russia was prepared to help if asked. Boats, aircraft, tents, blankets, generators, cash assistance and medical teams have been offered to the U.S. government in Washington or in embassies overseas. Offers have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States, the spokesman said. |
