Hairbrained Idea
I have half an idea to start my own business being a link verifier. I need some real input to see if something like this would float and have a real chance to make it. This partial idea has come to me out of pure frustration of doing a lot of internet searches and finding various links that do not function. This happens not only on the small mom and pop business websites or personal ones but also on the major search engines as well.
I think I have come up with what would be a very reasonable price for this as well. I just need some input to see if there is a real market for something like this. Then I will pull my hair out trying to turn it into a business. Thoughts.....please? Anne |

With the size of the internet this is nothing that could be done by hand. There are already several sites that will hop your site and look for broken links and report those that are not valid. Some even do it for free, as a site owner I get reports automatically quite often and have never signed up for such a service. I think that Alexa might do something like this too if you request a crawl.

While what you are saying is true--you would be suprised at how many non-functioning links I have run across. Yes, this has even happened with Yahoo. You know that they are big enough to have a computer program to go in and check links--but it seems like it could also use some human back up.
Yes, the internet is large but it is possible to go in and manually click on a website's links to make sure they go where they are supposed to go. Anne |

Sure it is possible but nearly impossible.
Take a sight like this one with several dynamic links on each page, you would never ever be able to finish.I'm not saying that the idea isn't worth exploring, there may in fact be a market for it. ![]() |

That is true, but I was thinking of more the mom and pop size places.
