Thumbs up Sea Dragons Make It!

I was reading about the New Orleans Aquarium and it looks like the Australian Sea Dragons made it, depsite significant temperture changes when the generators failed.

YAY!!!

There is also a sea dragon exhibit at my local aquarium, in Camden, NJ. It's the most amazing thing -- they have a column that's probably 400 gallons with about 5 dragons -- 3 or 4 leafy an 2 weedy. There is almost nothing in there with them excelp sea kelp and a big, branchy structure for them to hitch to. It is BY FAR my favorite exhibit.

I'm really glad the New Orleans sea dragons made it! Go figure -- what you thought was your most delicate animal turns out to be really hardy.

i wonder how much $$$$ it would cost to get a pair of dragons for a home tank. If i had the money i would put 2 in a 55 with just tonga branch LR and kelp.

Can't happen. They are protected species. Only public aquariums can keep them in captivity.

DAMN TOO BAD, so if i open a public tank i can keep them that still brings up a question of how much.

Thanks George! They were a trick to get... No flash allowed, and very little light to work with.

They need big volumes of water, apparently and all sygnathids need taller rather than wider-- the exhibit at my local aquarium (Camden, NJ) has them in a column that is 5+ feet high and probably only 28 inches wide and deep. It has kelp and a piece of artificial driftwood. That's IT -- oh and about 7 dragons! Weedy and leafy.

Here's a pic of a weedy off one of the seahorse boards...
