I usually store all of my pictures in "My Pictures" album. Also, when I upload them from the camera the software puts them in the specific folder for that day. You can specify how you want your pics to be stored depending on what software/program you are using.

I am using Jasc Photo Shop Pro to manage my photographs. By default, it stores pictures in folders based on when you download them from the camera. I can build collections to include pictures from any folder. For example, I have a collection for my reef tank. I can do simple adjustments to photos, such as color correction, contrast, brightness, cropping, resizing, etc. It also maintains a database, with which tags, keywords, and categories can be added for each picture. That is very time-consuming and I will freely admit that I don't use that feature. One critical feature is that the software keeps track of which pictures have been backed up to CD and catalogues which CD contains each photo. This makes it easier to manage archiving of the pictures.

Windows XP has some photo management software built in, but I have not used it and don't know how capable it is.

Doug,

If you are talking about HP Image Zone it's a wonderful piece of software ,if you don't have Photoshop that is. It does dissent job with editing, including white balance adjustments capabilities. Plus, it is really well thought out in terms of organizing your images, sharing and what not, real easy to use as well.

Also, while editing, you can have two images side by side for comparason, I found it useful as well. I don't use it much since I have Photoshop but thought it was pretty good when I tried to use it( just for my own curiosity )

I have a 160GB drive FULL OF PICTURES!

I don't use the my pictures, since I use an alternate drive. I just created different folders and load the cards into each respective category, then by date. Example: EOS20D>Mike>Fish tank>Coral>SPS>Montipora>09-09-05 I know it seems like a PITA but I'll bet I can find ANY picture I have at ANY given time!

Ditto.

I copy my "really good pics" onto thumbdrives...they travel with me.
