You know I'm a smoker but honestly feel that if I wanted to go cold turkey I could; just don't have the deisre to quit.

I wish you the best though!

I'm trying to quit. As sad as it is to say I'm not doing a good job. I've been dipping a really weak apple flavored dip and it helps quite a bit but dipping also is pretty bad. My dad told me cigarettes are by far the worst way to get nicotene and that he's never seen a case of cancer from dip that the person didn't also smoke. He's a doctor and has dipped every day since he was 13...so far nothing bad has come of it but that may be our blood line or something I don't know. Every male in my family has always dipped and so far noone has had a bad experience but my grandfather died of lung cancer from smoking so I'm gonna try dipping for a while.

A couple of things helped me cut back though....taking a shower and brushing my teeth first thing in the morning makes me not wanna smoke......also sucking on candy or eating sunflower seeds helps. Smoking has been said to be harder to quit than a severe drug addiction. It's nasty and I hate it but still do it.

From 1980 - 1990 I was 1 pack to 1.5 packs a day. One day I woke up and was simple tired of the hacking and coughing. When I ran out of smokes I simple did not buy anymore - I have been smoke free for the last 15 years.

Instead of investing my hard earned money into killing myself; I decided to invest it back into aquariums.

My mother on the other hand died at a young age of 68 from terminal cancer from smoking. THAT WAS THE WAKE UP CALL!!! to insure I never smoked again.

The hardest part is in the head - Over the years, I have found those who fail to stop smoking really never wanted to stop in the 1st place and they always find an excuse to start back smoking again.

Figured I'd throw my 2 cents in - tried the gum Nothing. Finally 2.5 years ago - almost 2.5 years - I quit cold turkey. That is about a week after my father had a heart attack. So today we are both smoke free. JoAnne (my wife) quick 1.5 years ago after a bad bout with phemonia. MUCH easier with nobody in the house.

BTW - can't say I still don't crave it though.

YAY ROCKY! Way to go! I have never smoked, find it silly, but I truly admire those who come to the realization that they can live longer/happier/healthier without the cigarettes! The ones that bother me are the young people that START smoking now, KNOWING what a horrible health risk it poses. Those that started back when it was considered HEALTHY I can somewhat understand, but to start today.... Foolish!

Try the gum. Try the mints. My mechanic -- a 2 pack guy did the mints for about a month. That was over 2 years ago now. They are supposed to work well...

you can try getting a perscription of wellbuterin(sp?), that the way it sounds atleast... Its an anti-depressent, but doctors are perscribing it to help quit smoking. I know 5 ppl that have used that and all of them said it totally got rid of any cravings. And since its antidepressent, your health insurance should cover some of it.

Hi GaryZ, Welcome to Reefland.com!

That is pretty funny! Does that make it easy or hard to quit?

I hoping that my new saltwater addiction will take the place of my nicotine addiction. So far, not so good.

Hey Rocky!

Just stop!

My father smoked for 25 years. One day he decided to quit (after getting cancer) and hasn't smoked once since. It has been 13 years.... If you really want to you can.....
