Hurricane Rita

Seems this year we have an aweful lot of Hurricane threads.

Anyhow, as of 7pm EST on Wednesay, Hurrican Rita is a powerful Cat 5 storm with a center pressure of 904mb heading towards the Texas Gulf Coast. Please be safe to all our Reefland.com friends in the path of this storm.

WOW! I hadn't paid that much attention recently! This surely explains why Scott packed up his server and got out of DODGE! (Well actually Sugarland). Scott is my web host so my site is down till this is over... Hopefully it makes a U turn and heads back out the way it came!

I don't know if this will work....

But when I posted it, it says 898 mb!!!!

Mike,
Thats so ironic....I grew up in sugarland! My step dad lives in Galveston he left tuesday and is staying with one of my uncles in Houston. This is all soo weird cuz they moved all the ppl from N.O. Hurricane Katrina into the Astrodome, and yesterday they moved them from houston to some place in Arkansas. Can you imagine them having to evacuate Houston? Thats a pretty damn big city!

No I can't even begin to fathom that! I'll bet people get out though, Rita is NASTY! And after NO, I am sure people down that way are pretty gun shy! I fell bad for the people from NO that are now on a bus AGAIN! I'll bet they are starting to wonder if their lives are ever going to get back to NORMAL!

I agree get out of town fast this is a killer storm coming Cat 5 170 mph heading in that direction even Houston might not be safe enough.

There might not be a Galveston Island left after Rita finishes with her destruction.

Be safe all!!!!

Well at least it has weakened slightly and the pressure is rising, that is a good sign...if you had to try to pull a good sign out of this mess.

The projected path has definitely changed more towards the east including the western half of LA.

Cool how that picture updates! The pressure has risen quite a bit... Still Nasty, but not 175MPH!

This storm is taking forever to pass. It seems like we've been having rain and winds from it for the past week! We started to get the feeder bands almost as soon as it entered the Gulf and we have been having storm force winds for about 36 hours now. Our winds have been between 30-40 mph with gusts to 50 mph for the past day and a half. Fortunately that's not enough to knock out the power. The weather guys say we will continue to feel the outer bands for another couple of days or more.

Oh, I almost forgot, my internet connection decided to come back on about 20 minutes ago. That's weird! It was out for 27 days due to Hurricane Katrina and then it decided to come back in the middle of another hurricane.

Looks like Hurricane Rita is going in over Sabine Pass. Fortunately it has weakened a lot from what it was earlier this week. Hopefully it won't be as dreadful as Katrina.
