I searched the board and found my thread from 2-1/2 years ago when I got all worked up because the Japanese government said it was necessary for them to kill 440 minke whales for "scientific research." Important Scientific Research
This year Japan will kill 935 minke whales and 10 fin whales. Within two years they plan to include humpback whales in their "research program."

P.S. -- Norway kills 800 minke whales a year but they call it what it is, commercial whaling. Norway refuses to accept the moratorium. Japan insists that they are conducting necessary "scientific research." In addition to the nearly 1000 whales that they will kill in the program mentioned above, they also kill an additional 255 whales each year in another program.
