Talking Wow! The new Atlanta Aquarium is really something else!

CNN just showed a shot of Beluga Whales swimming around in a 6,200,000-gallon tank at the new Atlanta Aquarium! It's supposed to open next week!

This is all I could find online following two minutes of exhaustive research: http://www.vergestudios.com/aquarium.htm

Arrow No wonder I couldn't find anything!

It's called the "Georgia Aquarium," not the "Atlanta Aquarium" like CNN said, unless they just changed the name today.

I found that out by googling Bruce Carlson's name because I know that he left the Waikiki Aquarium for this place: http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/newsroom/ourExperts.aspx

I ate dinner with Bruce Carlson and James from Envision Acrylics last year. At the time, they weren't able to discuss much about the aquarium....they would only hint. In fact, when the acrylic came in for the big tank, they even made James stop working on his jellyfish tanks and leave the building. I'm glad the secrecy is over and more information is coming out now. I can't wait to go.

I'm not sure if they have any whale sharks in there yet. I see on their website where they say that their main tank was "designed" to hold whale sharks but the 30 second video clip that I saw on CNN didn't show any whale sharks, just Beluga whales.

Here is a picture of a whale shark in an aquarium in Okinawa: Whale Shark in tank.

That was the largest aquarium in the world when it opened but then I think the one in Spain that opened later is even larger.

OK, if they had a whale shark, I guess I just missed it. I heard them talking about Beluga whales and didn't pay attention to anything else.

I'll see if I can find that Okinawa aquarium's website again to see if their whale sharks are still alive.

They're trying to breed their whale sharks in captivity!

They have two "Baby" whale sharks around 14-15 feet each. I am planning on attending after X-mas week.

By the way, if you have problems getting on their site, it is up, they are just getting slammed since the Today Show broadcasted from their location yesterday.

Three hours later...and the site is still being hammered.
