Right this very moment, there are 15 members online out of a total of 226 "people" online. Of the 211 "guests," 125 are spiders.
You can count them for yourself, I just did.

Looks like 12 are Google, 1 MSN, 1 Ask and the remainder Yahoo!. I guess that is why we have over 80,000 pages indexed in Yahoo!.![]()
Yahoo loves us!
For us computer ignorant folks that can't even seem to set their own e-mail account, what in the heck is a spider??![]()

I believe a spider is an AI program that scours the web, looking for web pages. It indexes them, and uses the links on those pages to get to other pages. Every once in a while, it'll go "home" to report its findings.

CSeaSee is correct. A spider or bot is a computer that browses the internet and stores webpages so when you go to a search engine and do a search, it has results for you. It is a complex business and each search engine is different on how they determine what results to return. The first step for a website is to get the spiders on the site to index it and we do a very good job at that.![]()
Some google examples:
Starphire glass tank The first three pages of links are all about me!
(OK, I cheated. I googled "Starphire glass tank Ninong."But if you go ahead and google just plain old "Starphire glass tank," I'm on the first page as the #7 listing out of 3,330 listings.
Obviously I'm not going to add my board name to any searches that I do looking for advice but even when I don't, I end up getting my own advice back on lots of subjects. If I'm wondering which boards I posted about a certain topic, all I have to do is search a couple of key words with Ninong tacked onto the end and I will get all of my posts on Reefland, Reef Central and Reefs.org. I use the same board name on 9 different boards but I'm only active on two and semi-active on a third.

Is this your semi-active board?![]()

When I did the search from your second link your tank thread was the 3rd listing.![]()
No, Reefs.org is my semi-active board. I usually go over there just to read their online magazine. Sometimes I hang around long enough to stir up stuff: http://www.reefs.org/phpBB2/viewtopi...er=asc&start=0Originally Posted by CSeaSee
