It doesn't matter though...I like her, and that's all that counts! I couldn't ask for a better behaved dog.

Have you ever heard the saying that someone has a face made for radio J/K
I always have wanted a basset hound cuz I needed something uglier than me to look at in the morning. Just makes the coffee taste better I guess

What is that, a Sharpei (or however it is spelled)? Is it full blooded?

Scott, Yes she is a "full blooded" AKC registered Chinese Shar-pei. She is actually a show quality dog...I just haven't had the time to get her to any shows yet. I'm actually planning on breeding her this summer..if anyone's interested...hint, hint

Are they prone to some kind of skin disease? My aunt and uncle had one years ago but the poor dog was always so sick and it's skin was always dry and whatnot.

Back in the early 80's they were a fairly new breed to the U.S. and there was a pretty high demand for them which led to severe over breeding and unhealthy dogs. This has given Shar-pei the stigma that they have skin problems. Yes, if you get a dog from an unresponsible breeder, who only does it for money, then there is a good probability that you will get a dog with some sort of problem...not just skin, there are other common health problems. But that is with any breed. If a certain dog has this genetic disposition, then it in turn should not be bred. This is where you get into the quality not quantity. If you go to a reputable breeder, who is generally active in conformation, and will have all of their dogs on hand for you to look at, then you can get a dog free of the skin problems. Definately never buy a Shar-pei from a pet store or a puppy mill.

Well, I hope some of that was useful.

Guess that's why they had an unhealthy dog. I beleive it passed away several years ago.

Charlie,

What the heck is Duke?? He is too darn CUTE!!!

Brooke,

I have always LOVED Shar-Pei, and I think the black ones are just so much prettier than the fawn. They are so nice, too.

Scuba should post a picture of Shelby, his Pug! She's also extremely cute (can you tell I like Pugs???!!)

He's not an achilles, I can spell that. he's a llhasa apso. If you laugh to hard with that spelling, I am not responsible for my own actions.

Wow Great pooches everyone.

BTW...I had someone who had a litter of AKC champion Shar Pei's and she was going to give me a puppy for free. I was thrilled because I had to put down Cheyenne this year. When I started researching care requirements, temperment, etc. I found out how much she could sell that puppy for. She was a single mother with two children so I had to turn down her offer. I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I took that much money out of her bank account. Dreaming about it was fun for a while though.

Thanks almostdiva,

It's kinda funny...most people don't even realize that Shar-pei come in different colors. They're so used to seeing the Fawn. When in fact they come in black, blue, chocolate, red, fawn, red dilute, isabella, cream, lilac, etc....
