Re: Double Standard

My best friend had an affair with our high school senior english teacher who was very good looking and extremely friendly with many of us male students. He was not the first student either but this particular incident got out. He was 18 but the other guy was not and he never came forward with his story. I had to speak at the schoolboard hearing because I was present one night. She was married to a local cop and had a son that was I believe under 2 years old at the time. She was fired and lost her teaching license. They ended up moving out of town. Thinking back I feel that this had a big impact on my friends life and wish it had never happened. I also feel that even though he was 18 that he was manipulated and taken advantage of. I completely disagree with this decision.

Post Re: Double Standard

Hi All,

When I was 14, if one of my teachers had made a pass at me, I would have done what probably 90% of hormonally charged teenagers would have done… Except when I was 14, my teachers were nuns.

I guess what stands out with me is that this is especially unacceptable because this was with a teacher. We do/should hold teachers up to a higher standard in this regard. In my father’s generation, teachers were often spinsters because of the perceived impropriety of having “experienced” women around our youth.

I do believe that for physical/psychological reasons, this is much less likely to cause long term issues when the under aged person involved is a male. It may be politically incorrect to say this, but I still believe it to be the case. If this was between my under aged daughter and a male teacher, castration would be more in order.

Regards,

Scott
