Scotty is OUT!

The president and Scott McClellen just posed on the White House lawn to announce that Scotty is resigning as Press Secretary. He's "given it his all" apparently...

TOO funny, since recently it appears he's the last one to know anything about what's going on in the White House!! Wonder who they'll get to do the job next???

Brit Hume would be perfect!
He's already been doing the job for some time now.

Obviously they'll choose someone with an inside track, someone who knows what's really going on in the White House.

I guess that means they'll offer the job to someone at Fox News. In fact, they might even merge the White House Communications Office with Fox News to save time getting their spin out.

Right now the job has been offered to Tony Snow but he hasn't decided yet.

P.S. -- If he turns down the job, I understand others on the short list include the well known comedian Rush Limbaugh and moderate social commentator Michelle Malkin. The Administration especially likes Michelle's views on concentration camps.

Why would Tony Snow take the job of White House Press Secretary? It's not really a promotion, more like an interdepartmental transfer and at a reduction in pay to boot.

Jeff Gannon said he'd take it. It would be a promotion for him and, besides, he already knows the layout of the White House.

I can understand why some people may be reluctant to take on the responsibility of being the official White House mouthpiece. You have to be able to stand up there day after day and spout all sorts of bizarre accounts about how great things are going in Iraq while the reporters laugh in your face.

It's not an easy job but somebody has to do it and I think I know just the guy. In fact, the administration has been talking to him for some time now.

Dan Senor's name was mentioned last week as a possible replacement for McClellan but that was before Josh Bolten actually offered the job to Tony Snow. At least Fox News is saying that Snow is considering the job offer.

I think Senor still works in the Bush Administration and is just a part-time Fox News contributor but I could be wrong. I know last week when his name popped up, someone quipped that if he gets the job, he would be accused of "being in bed with the media" since he's married to Campbell Brown. They were just married a couple of weeks ago.

Considering the fact that all six people who were offered Michael Brown's old job as head of FEMA turned it down, you would think that the administration would wait until they actually had a replacement for Scotty lined up before throwing him from the train.

If Snow turns it down, I'm pretty sure Dan Senor will accept it if it is offered to him. Tori Clarke said yesterday on CNN that she absolutely is not interested and wouldn't accept it if it is offered.

From today's NY Times:

"On another front, Republicans said that Tony Snow, a commentator for Fox News and a former speechwriter for Mr. Bush's father, was in negotiations for the job of White House press secretary."

What's to negotiate? The pay is set and it can't go any higher than the current $161,000/yr. And the job requirements are the same as they have ever been. You tell 'em what we tell you to tell 'em. Pretty much the same as his present job except that the pay will be much less.

Arrow Oh, another thing:

That same NY Times article had this to say about would be Supreme Court Justice Harriet Miers:
"Mr. Bolten is said by a number of Republicans in Washington to feel that Ms. Miers is indecisive, a weak manager and slow in moving vital paperwork through the system."

How is it possible to go from "the most qualified person for the job" of Supreme Court Justice to being an indicisive, weak manager who is slow moving paperwork in a matter of a few months?

If Bush agrees to this change then it's the same as admitting he was totally wrong about Miers being a good choice for the Supreme Court. How can she be unqualified for the job of White House Counsel if she was supremely qualified for the Supreme Court just a few months ago?

If they want to make some changes that would amount to more than window dressing, they should send Rummy to a nice retirement community somewhere in Idaho and limit Cheney's responsibilites to attending funerals.
