Hard disk crash

No matter how much backing up you do, don't you just hate it when your hard drive crashes?!

Yup, I have learned that if I run multiple hard drives it helps though. As I upgrade I take the smallest drive I have left, and install all my programs on it. Things like windows, adobe, and office, all go on the C: drive. All my "stuff" like wedding pictures, and any other important files go on different drives. My reasoning for this is 1) not putting all my eggs in one basket, and 2) Virus's are usually written to attack the C drive, so if my stuff is somewhere else it SHOULD be safe(r).

If you have two hard drives or more than one computer on a network, this is an AWESOME program. http://www.recovermyfiles.com/

The best part about it is that you can scan your hard drive for free. Once you determine how many files it recovers, then you pay to back them up to the other hard drive. If it doesn't recover enough....don't pay for the program. (I've restored 99% of a hard drive before).

Multiple drives...or a Server

I've used Ghost for years. It's probably 60-70$ these days, well worth it.

Dozens of images up... and thousands down, with zero failure.

If you have a Server\another computer. You boot off a floppy with network drivers and Ghost.exe, map a drive and wait 10-15 minutes. Reboot. You're back in the game.

If you don't have a Server to dump your drive image onto, no prob. Depending on your hood opening skills, it might even be faster.
Just drop another HD in...use the data and power cables from the CD.
Ghost the image to the added drive, then yank it out.
You can reimage\restore a PC in less than 5 minutes with a disk to disk copy.

I never got around to creating a bootable Ghost CD with USB HD drivers, but that could be kinda slick to have...
