Exclamation Oh dear God

Have any of you ever tried to give a cat a flea bath? I swear I think baptising Satan would have been easier...

And now I'm up till 3am because the flea ridden feline actually bit me! I just can't believe it. This cat has never even hissed at me and she goes and bites my arm! I had to go to some 24/hr pharmacy to get a whole array of antibiotics (because you all know cat bites are).

So anyway, if anyone knows a better way to rid a cat of fleas, for the love of the gods, please tell me...

Take it to the vet and let them deal with it.
As far as your bite goes, don't you keep Hydrogen peroxide around the house????? Don't flea collars work anymore.

I would get rid of the cat...

Get a DOG! They love water, are useful for home protection, and are just BETTER!

Can you tell I am a DOG person?

Sorry for the bite Sarah, I know cat bites hurt like crazy. I got one once while playing with one, darn cat doesn't know the difference between playing and .... whatever. I was told it was a "love bite" well if that is how cats show affection, they can KEEP IT!

Thanks all.

Yeah, I used to sell frontline a lot when I worked at the pet store. I always wondered if it worked. I'll have to try it.

Dogs? I love dogs. I'd have one if I could. I've always wanted an alaskan snow dog or a siberian husky. They're so beautiful. I also like those little toy dogs too though. I had a "pure bred" pomeranian once. I put that in quotes because I swear those papers must have been forged. No pomeranian I've ever heard of weighed 12lbs (and not fat... just big), with pointy ears and a ragged tail. That dog was totally messed up mentally too. He got fleas once aswell. But I think he liked the bath... I don't know. Weird dog.

I do have hydrogen peroxide in the house. But that stuff just prevents the spread of infection. It doesn't really kill bacteria all too well (if it does at all). Whenever you get a deep cat bite you should go on perscription antibiotics. Otherwise you could get a serious infection.

And the flea collar? Well... she had one! I guess it must have just expired or something. She has a new one now though!

Betadyne rinsed over the puncture wounds is better. Don't cover it up (ie, with a BandAid). Let it air out. Watch for discharge, swelling, soreness, or redness. Sorry you got bitten! I'm sure your cat is normally very sweet. Cats have a strong survival instinct, and she felt threatened by something that traumatic (to her). Hope you're feeling better!

Frontline is the best bet, but you need to make sure you do it every four weeks and not bathe the cat right after you apply it (as if you'll ever try to bathe your cat again HA). Good luck!

I use Revolution on the dogs and cats... and if your cat goes outside, don't forget to treat the yard for fleas....

Well, my husband has me on levaquin and one other scary-powerful antibiotic he makes me take every 6 hours. I was like "sweetie, it's a cat bite, not TB." But he just went on about the body having to fight both anaerobic and aerobic bacteria... followed by gruesome tales of him having to drain infected animal bites in ER patients (um, yeah, more than I wanted to know). Well, whatever he says... but if I get pregnant I'm blaming him (and not for the usual reason!). LOL So yeah, I'm not so worried about the infection anymore...

As for the cat... I think next time I'll try frontline (thanks all for the suggestion). I haven't seen any fleas on her today. So I'm thinking the bath/collar combo may be working. Thank god!

My sister has three cats and three dogs and she uses Frontline regularly. She has never had fleas on any of her animals.

Two chores I will NOT volunteer to do again: Giving a pill to a cat or taking a dog's temperature!

It works... fleas and ticks. My mom live in Maine, on the coast near Portland. In warm weather, Sam, the cat, is outside 90% of the day. He gets his frontline in April/May and then again in mid summer. He's been clean every year she's done it.

Great... now *I* have fleas. Apparently, even though fleas can't live on people, they can live in the carpet and jump up and bite you continuously until you go insane!

So what do I do now? Wear two flea collars around my ankles? I've tried vacuming and bug spray. But the beasts just won't die!

Treat the animals, treat the yard, treat the house and put cut up flea collars in your vacume (fleas will breed in it). BTW flea collars are really kinda useless on large animals, they just migrate to the other end.

Just keep the animals treated, and the flea collars in your vac, you will win eventually.

Nice visual BTW. (Flea collars on your ankles. )

Well, I was going to ask if anyone wanted to give me a flea bath... but I figured that might be a bit too much.
