John Mark Karr
Guilty or not?
I have a hard time passing judgement on these types of cases prior to the jury reading a verdict, but wonder your thoughts? |

To quote John Mark Karr: "It's not what it seems."
I originally assumed that the Boulder D.A. must have something specific that ties him to the crime -- DNA, palmprint, handwriting comparison, bootprint, something. Now I'm not so sure. There is supposed to be a palmprint and there is supposed to be male DNA in JonBenet's underwear. And then there is that lengthy ransom note demanding $118,000.00, which just happens to be the exact amount of John Ramsey's net Christmas bonus after taxes were withheld. One would assume that after all the bad press the police department and the previous D.A. got over the original investigation of this case that the new D.A. would have been careful to check things out before going public, but who knows. Just looking at the guy, I think he's nuts! And who wears their pants that high?!? Did you notice the martyr performance with arms outstretched when he was being physically escorted by the local police to that chair where he gave his press interview? That was over the top. And what's with the eye movements? Both at that interview and on the plane. Based on comments other passengers on that flight have made, it seems he puts on a performance when the cameras are on him and goes back to "normal" when they aren't. His first wife was either 12 or 13 when she married him. He was 19. That marriage was annulled a year later. Then his second wife was only 16 when he married her; I think he was around 24 then. This guy sounds like Jerry Lee Lewis. Remember when he married his 13-yr-old cousin? And what's with the interest in the Polly Klaas murder? He was so fascinated with that case that he moved his entire family to Petaluma, where he was charged with possession of child pornography. And why would he have a copy of Polly Klaas' death certificate? Not only that, he has a letter from her killer, Richard Allen Davis. He decided to be a penpal with Richard Allen Davis. Anyway, at this point, I would be surprised if this guy is the killer. Is he a pedophile? Yes! Is is stone crazy? Absolutely! Did he kill her? We'll have to wait to see what the D.A. has, if anything. His ex-wife says he was always with them at Christmas. His father has pictures of the three boys Christmas Day 1996 and his father says that if the boys were there, then their father was the one who brought them there.

I have to agree with Ninong.
I believe he is a seriously twisted individual, and with his background in teaching, an excellent incentive to homeschool, but Jon Benet's killer? I will be really surprised if they manage to connect him to the crime. Just reading the reports, I'm inclined to think he is obsessed with notorious child murder cases, has identified with these pedophile monsters, and has created a scenario in which he is the "star". Neurotics build castles in the air, psychotics live in them... and John Mark Karr "accidentally" kills Jon Benet in them. |

He's nuts.
Not as nutty as the DA who's career path will be nuked by this... I guess it's a two-fer.

It seems that he knows a lot about the event, but those are details that he could have gathered from the press and internet. The whole SBTC thing gets me with the yearbook and then the ransom note. Coincidence? Perhaps but still another one of those pointers.

Check out this story. Quite revealing. Turns out he lived with a family for five weeks but the father threw him out because of his inappropriate rude remarks to his wife and two step-daughters. That and the fact that he liked to listen to Marilyn Manson music
and they were Pentecostals. The landlord suspected that he was a pedophile based on his comments but he was unable to find anything on him when he searched online. P.S. -- Note to Scott: Looks like I'm NOT subscribed to this thread. ![]() P.P.S. -- Second note to Scott: Only you and Frag Hag are subscribed to this thread. Schrocat and I are NOT subscribed. How weird is that? This new software is certainly strange!

Did you notice my second P.S.? Isn't it strange that two of us in this thread are subscribed while the other two are not subscribed?

I think he has serious issues with his rels to children (obviously... since he was arrested, but fled CA on child porn possession charges). I agree w Ninong on his pants what IS up with that???!! Also his shirts (the blue polo and the red polo from news footage) are HUGE -- the sleeves hang down to his elbows or just below. And he is plumb loco.
Not sure he did the deed though -- I wanna see what the DNA test sez. I would also like to know how a chronically under/unemployed teacher gets enough money to travel to Thailand 3 or 4 times per year. The airfare alone is like 2K right?? Rebecca |

Last night on CNN (Anderson Cooper 360), they quoted the father of John Mark Karr's first wife (the 13-hr-old one) as saying that love notes he wrote to her when they were "courting" were signed SBTC. If that is true and if they have any of those still laying around, that's VERY significant! Unfortunately, it's hard to tell truth from fiction because people are coming out of the woodwork all over the place looking for their 15 minutes of fame. Karr's father and brother are negotiating right now for a six-figure deal for exclusive interview rights -- with them, not John Mark Karr! They will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about John Mark Karr's childhood, etc., if the money's right. The way that works is that they get a lawyer to draw up a proposal outlining what bits of gossip they have that they will share with the highest bidder. Obviously, the juicier the inside scoop, the higher the bids. ![]()

John Mark Karr's brother insisted Friday that Karr did not kill JonBenet Ramsey. "Absolutely not. Emphatically. Without a doubt," Nate Karr said in a television interview.
Karr told ABC's "Good Morning America" he was certain his brother spent Christmas 1996, when JonBenet was slain, with his family. Read the rest here. P.S. -- Following this story is like watching a 3-ring circus!

I wonder how much that BS fest cost the fine citizens of Denver?
First class airfare back from a country that had a suspicious eye on him anyway, pate' on the plane, and all the attention a eyeliner wearing narcisist could ever want! All for free!

I don't know how much it cost but I think I know what the DA was referring to when she said that John Mark Karr knew something that only the killer would know. In his emails and/or phone conversations with that guy who did the JonBenet documentary, John Mark Karr said that he "tasted JonBenet's blood." It turns out that the male DNA that was "present in JonBenet's underwear" is mixed with her own blood. In other words, a drop of her blood that stained her underwear that contained male DNA from saliva.
So the DA figured he had to be the killer since they never did say what sort of male DNA sample was present in JonBenet's underwear. Only the killer would make a statement about "tasting her blood." They took a buccal swab from John Mark Karr's cheek on Aug. 24th and turned it over to the DNA lab on Aug. 25th. They were informed the very next day, Aug. 26th, that John Mark Karr was definitely not a DNA match. So now he will be transported to Petaluma to face charges of possession of child pornography. I wonder if his father and brother cashed the check yet for exclusive rights to their side of the story? The cable news networks will not let go. They will now bombard us with specials devoted to John Mark Karr's life history and his phychological problems. Unless some wingnut religious freak drowns all of her children to send them to heaven or some looney bride-to-be catches a bus to New Mexico to avoid an unwanted marriage. Heaven help us if they ever find the remains of that Alabama girl who disappeard in Aruba. That would be good for at least 72-hours of 24/7 coverage. Or maybe O.J. will catch the "real killers." Maybe Scott Peterson killed Nicole Brown Simpson? That would tie up all the cable news networks for weeks.

Yes, but those are just misdemeanor charges and it will be his first offense, so I'm not sure that he will get any time. That's assuming his new public defender doesn't beat the rap for him.
If he's found guilty, or if he cops a plea deal, then he would probably have to register as a sex offender. That may be what they're after. I can't see him getting any more than probation and registration whether it goes to trial or not. If the public defender decides to make a name for himself by going to trail, then we'll have cable news crews up there in Petaluma following a misdemeanor case. ![]() I wonder if he'll keep insisting that he was "with JonBenet when she died" and that "her death was an accident." Here's a bit of advice for anyone running low on cash abroad. Just tell the local authorities that you were "with JonBenet when she died and that her death was an accident." Then the Boulder DA will fly you back to Colorado in business class and your family can make six-figure deals with the TV networks for exclusive rights to your story. Just don't be stupid and let them take a DNA swab too soon. Try to hold off on that as long as you can or at least until after your family cashes the check.

Here's a bit of advice if you are a DA with a pedophile suspect under investigation\suspicion by Indonesian authorities for alleged innapropriate contact with an Indonesian minor when the only charges on said individual (in the US) is a porn charge punishable by less than one year....
Do Nothing.

I was talking about John Mark Karr over a pitcher of margaritas with an uberbuddy (we so need lives), and came to a conclusion: In the event of the next major earthquake, as the hapless residents of California starve, dehydrate, are attacked by looters while their houses burn down, waiting for FEMA's assistance...
I'm pulling a John Mark Karr, and uberbuddy will be claiming responsibility for the Lindbergh baby. |
