Newt Gingrich, who famously forced his wife to sign divorce papers while she was in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, who cheated on all of his wives with his future wives (you'd think they would have seen that coming), who spent at least nine years at Tulane studying history so as to avoid the Vietnam draft, is now scared to death of "San Francisco values." Newt says "San Francisco values" would be "a disaster for the country."
What a hypocrite! What's wrong with San Francisco values? The minimum wage in San Francisco is $8.82/hr. It's $2.65/hr in that bastion of GOP values, Kansas, the state that redefined science -- the Kansas law applies to people who are not subject to the federal minimum wage of $5.15/hr. (P.S. -- Kansas is the only state with a state minimum wage law below the federal minimum wage. Note that the states with higher minimum wage laws are almost all states that vote Democratic with the exception of Florida and Alaska and Florida will likely go Democratic in 2008. So much for the GOP's phony compassionate conservatism. And the GOP refuses to raise the federal minimum wage (unless they can tie it to benefits for the top 1% of the population) above the current pitiful $5.15/hr, where it has been stuck for the past nine years. Obviously the thought of an increase in the minimum wage scares the crap out of Newty! Can't allow those "San Francisco values" to spread to the rest of the country. Before you know it people will be demanding universal health care. And then they'll want us to do something about global warming. And San Francisco is now the first city in the country to provide universal health care to all residents. And they're not alone in that idea in the state of California. A bill is working it's way through the Democrat-controlled legislature right now that will provide state-wide universal health care, assuming the Governator signs it. He just might. He's been signing a whole bunch of stuff this year, ever since he was trashed last November in the special election (all of his props when down in flames) and ever since he hired top Democrats to run his office. He just signed the strongest bill in the country to fight global warming by mandating reductions in California greenhouse gas emissions. If BushCo won't do it, somebody has to. Ah-nult wants to get reelected in November and his chances have improved dramatically over the past six months. Don't get me wrong, I'm not pulling for Ah-nult to win in November but I am enjoying watching him stick it to Bush. So, let's see if we can get this straight: Voting for Democrats in November will lead to Nancy Pelosi bringing "San Francisco values" to the rest of the country and that would be a disaster. I think they're just upset that Bush never got more than 15% of the vote in San Francisco. That's what I think. And he has never visited San Francisco while in office, for which the people of San Francisco will be forever grateful. P.S. -- Sean Hannity said today stopping Nancy Pelosi from becoming Speaker of the House was a "matter of life or death." ![]() So... If they're all willing to die to stop Nancy Pelosi from becoming the next Speaker of the House, does that mean they will all commit hara-kiri live on the evening news if she does?
