Unhappy Crikey! This is so sad! Steve Irwin killed by stingray while diving on GBR:

CAIRNS, Australia - Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the “Crocodile Hunter,” was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.

Irwin was at Batt Reef, off the remote coast of northeastern Queensland state, shooting a segment for a series called “Ocean’s Deadliest” when he swam too close to one of the animals, which have a poisonous barb on their tails, his friend and colleague John Stainton said.

“He came on top of the stingray and the stingray’s barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart,” said Stainton, who was on board Irwin’s boat at the time.

    It is very said indeed!

I was reading about his death online this morning and remembered my trip this summer to Caymans. We went on the trip to play with stingrays there and I found them extremely gentle and playful, I remember holding one in my arms pressed tightly against my chest...

A real freakish death if you ask me...
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Well, I for one, will miss him. My brother and I grew up on Steve. I had always thought he was immortal. Guess I was wrong...

Very sad and so unexpected, even knowing how it occured now the chances of this happening are so slim.
