Sure you do. We talked about her in the Who-Did-It-Thread. She's the lady whose previous employer was GOP superlobbyist Jack Abramoff. She's also the person Patrick Fitzgerald kept calling back for more testimony before the grand jury during the investigation of her current boss, Karl Rove, for possible involvement in the Plamegate leak.
Anyhoo... We recently learned from newly released, previously secret, Abramoff testimony that he had more than 400 actual contacts with White House staffers in furtherance of his clients' interests. I believe the actual number of individual contacts billed was somewhere in the neighborhood of 485, including 10 with Karl Rove personally. That would be slightly more than the two or three visits that the White House recalls.
Well... Susan Ralston, Special Assistant to the President of the United States and Karl Rove's Chief of Staff, has just resigned so that she will not be a distraction at this important time. It seems she forgot to mention that she accepted thousands and thousands of dollars worth of gifts from Jack Abramoff that he gave her in gratitude for her assistance in handling his special requests... or whatever you would call them.
So another
high ranking White House staffer who was a former Abramoff employee bites the dust (David Safavian, the White House's Chief Procurement Officer was the first).
P.S. -- The official limit on gifts to White House staffers if $20.
P.P.S. -- During the Eisenhower years, all we got for scandal was a single vicuna coat given to Sherman Adams, his Chief of Staff. That cost Adams his job.
