Re: They're off and running for the 2008 GOP nomination:

Because there aren't enough clowns in the GOP presidential clown car...

Please contact Newt Gingrich, General Chairman of American Solutions for Winning the Future, and encourage him to run for the Republican party's presidential nomination.

General Chairman Gingrich has promised to enter the race if he receives pledges totalling $30 million. Just tell him you want him to run and promise to send him $2,300 after he announces. Just don't give him your credit card number.

I think Newtie would make a wonderful addition to the current GOP crew.

Run, Newtie! Run!

P.S. -- Doesn't "General Chairman" have sort of commie pinko ring to it?

Re: They're off and running for the 2008 GOP nomination:

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition...

Rudy Giuliani has "seen the light."

"All I know is, I liked what I heard today. It's a good thing, if a politician sees the light and supports the Second Amendment." -- NRA chief Wayne LaPierre commenting today on Rudy Giuliani's sudden conversion.

Frederick of Hollywood, WALNUTS! McCain and Rev. Mike Huckabee all assured the NRA audience that they have always been strong supporters of the NRA and have never referred to NRA members as "extremists."

Giuliani, ever the vaudevillian, pulled the stunt of having his wife call him on his cell phone while he was on stage. He then carried on a brief conversation with her in front of the audience. Rudy has pulled this gimmick before in Florida and Oklahoma. It's getting stale. The audience didn't know how to take it. It's just part of Rudy's shtick. He wisely chose to leave the Marilyn Monroe getup at home this time.

Here.

Re: They're off and running for the 2008 GOP nomination:

Check out some really hilarious video clips here.

Those six video clips all pretend to be from the Rudy Giuliani campaign. The signoff at the end of each of them is the real Giuliani campaign site.

From what I have been able to discover googling around online, the guy in the videos is an employee of a large ad firm in Washington, D.C. that is noted for its conservative Republican contracts. I think the guy's name is Brad. He has been talked about on a few blogs and that's where I got that information.

Anyway, check out the videos. I think they're funny!

Re: They're off and running for the 2008 GOP nomination:

Still delusional...

President Bush says he's a "strong asset" to Republicans running for president and can't wait to get out there on the campaign trail.

More wisdom from the guy who thinks he's a "strong asset" to the Republican presidential candidates: " The Republican candidate will win the White House in 2008." Of course, this is the same guy who said they would hold both the House and the Senate in November 2006. And he said that all the way up until the polls closed.

Re: They're off and running for the 2008 GOP nomination:

Giuliani's people are really lousy liars!

The AP is reporting on Giuliani's stunt during his NRA appearance when his wife called him on his cellphone.

Excerpt:

Giuliani has answered his wife's cell phone call a couple of times, including during a June appearance in Florida. It wasn't planned, his campaign said.

"What you saw today was a candidate in a spontaneous moment on the campaign trail," Giuliani spokeswoman Maria Comella said.

Judith Nathan is Giuliani's third wife.

P.S. -- Haha! Does that idiot spokeswoman really expect anyone to believe that crap? That's about as believable as George W. Bush's claim that he reads at least 60 books a year! You have to be incredibly stupid to believe the crap these guys put out but I guess they know their target audience.

Re: They're off and running for the 2008 GOP nomination:

Giuliani's low-class, tasteless, shameless shtick knows no limits!

$9.11 for Rudy

What a sicko!

The Giuliani campaign is holding a fundraiser in Palo Alto. The admission at the door is exactly $9.11 per person. No doubt once you're inside, they'll try to hit you up for $2,974.00 (one dollar for each 9/11 victim).

What a creep!!!!!

The Giuliani campaign issued an official statement saying that "the decision to charge $9.11 admission was unfortunate."

Attn: Suckers!

General Chairman Gingrich is not really running for the GOP presidential nomination...

...it was all just a publicity stunt to drum up more interest in his American Solutions for Winning the Future and to get a few more speaking engagements booked at $40,000 a pop.

Newtie announces that he won't run for president after all in spite of what he said just yesterday about needing just a few more pledges to reach $30 million. And what reason did he give? He said he doesn't want to give up his job as General Chairman of American Solutions for Winning the Future.

Too bad, because the GOP didn't have enough other candidates who were married three times and who committed open and notorious adultery during all of their marriages. And while it's true that Frederick of Hollywood was married at a young age after knocking up his girlfriend in high school, Newtie knocked up his high school math teacher and married her in spite of the 8-year age difference. So I think that would have given Newtie an advantage over Thompson. In other categories, he merely matched the leading GOP contenders. Giuliani has had three wives and so has Newt, and Giuliani, Thompson and Gingrich are all more than 20 years older than their current wives. Thompson, however, has only had two wives, same as John McCain. McCain is only 18 years older than his second wife.

Maybe there will be a draft Newtie movement? No, not a real draft, Newtie definitely never liked a real draft, just a movement to get him to accept the Republican party's nomination.

Re: They're off and running for the 2008 GOP nomination:

Tim Russett is a big idiot!

I don't know why I ever bother to watch Meet the Press. I know in advance that Russett is going to say something stupid to piss me off.

This morning he played a clip of the recent Democratic candidates debate showing Hillary Clinton answering his question about which team she would cheer for if the Chicago Cubs end up in the World Series against the New York Yankees. Hillary said she would probably alternate between the two teams.

I assumed that Russett asked her that question because he was hoping she would say she would have to cheer for the Cubs, thus pissing off her New York constituents. I can't believe he's that stupid to expect that she would say that but who knows, Timmy can be exceedingly dense sometimes.

However, that's not the approach he took this morning when he replayed that clip. He said it showed that Hillary didn't want to offend the fans of either team. The other morons, such as David Gregory, all agreed with him. No one bothered to point out that as someone who was born in Chicago and raised in suburban Chicago through high school, Hillary might feel loyalty to both teams. She's also spent a lot of time in Little Rock and Washington, D.C., too. But the point Russett was making was that she said she would pull for both teams strictly as a political response. Maybe it was but she would have every right to be a fan of both teams.

I wonder if Russett will ask Barack Obama which team he's pulling for if Hawaii ever plays Illinois? Barack was born and raised in Hololulu, except for four years, starting at age 6 when he lived with his mother in Jakarta, Indonesia and attended an exclusive private school where he studied to be a Muslim terrorist according to GOP TV (FOX Noise). At age 10, Barack moved back to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents but by this time he was already a terrorist according to FOX Noise.

Re: They're off and running for the 2008 GOP nomination:

Bad news for Republicans running for office in 2008

The American public has not been fooled. They understand what's going on in Washington in spite of the idiotic comments from GOP TV's talking heads and White House spinmeisters.

Have you noticed how often some dumbass GOP politician will go on teevee and make a complete jackass out of himself/herself by quoting the latest polls that show that the American public has a low approval rating of the "Democrat Congress?" They all use the word Democrat as an adjective because they're all intellectually, as well as morally, challenged. Good ole boy Trent Lott has even bragged on national teevee about how successful he and Miss McConnell have been in their obstructionist tactics in the Senate. By opposing almost everything the Democrats want to pass, they have made it virtually impossible to get any bills through without 60 votes.

In spite of public dissatisfaction with Congress, the public rates congressional Democrats 9 points higher than congressional Republicans and, by a 2 to 1 margin, those who see little accomplishment in Congress's first nine months blame the inaction on Bush and the GOP more than they do the majority Democrats. Fifty-one percent place primary fault with the president and congressional Republicans, and 25 percent on the Democrats -- the same 25% who believe Bush is doing a heckuva job.

Bush and the Republicans may also be headed for a political setback from the fight over the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), even if Congress does not override Bush's threatened veto.

More than seven in 10 in the poll support the planned $35 billion spending increase, and 25 percent are opposed. About half of all Americans "strongly" support the increased spending; 17 percent are firmly against the additional funds. Eighty-one percent of Democrats, 69 percent of independents and 61 percent of Republicans are in favor of a bill that Bush has promised to veto.

Democrats hold a big edge over Republicans on health-care issues. Overall, 56 percent said they trust Democrats to handle health care, and 26 percent side with the GOP.

Democrats also have a greater share of the public trust on other key issues, including Iraq (a 15-point advantage), the economy (18 points) and handling the federal budget deficit (23 points). On the campaign against terrorism, 41 percent put more faith in Democrats, 40 percent in Republicans.

Here.

Bush just vetoed the expanded S-CHIP bill

That would be the bill that had wide bipartisan support. It passed the Senate by a vote of 67-29 and the House by a vote of 265-159. Obviously there are enough votes in the Senate to override the veto but not enough in the House. Normally it takes 290 votes to override in the House but since there are two vacant seats at the moment, it will take 289 to override.

Bush said he is concerned that this $35 billion coverage increase in children's health care is just the first step on the road to covering all children. It's an increase of $35 billion over five years to allow an additional 4 million children into the program. Before you know it, we could end up like Canada... or France! OMG!

Canada has free health care for everybody. They also ran up a new record budget surplus this past week. That would be their tenth year in a row of balancing their national budget under both Liberal and Conservative administrations. We balanced our national budget three years in a row under that horrible Bill Clinton. He ran up some really obscene budget surpluses. People were even talking about wiping out the national debt within ten years. Thank goodness George W. Bush finally restored honor and dignity and fiscal responsibility to the White House. Those budget surpluses were getting downright embarrassing.

P.S. -- We need to get every single GOP presidential candidate on the record answering this question: "Do you support the president's veto of this bill?"

Re: They're off and running for the 2008 GOP nomination:

Child Health Day, 2007
A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America

Our Nation is committed to the health and well-being of our youth. On Child Health Day, we reaffirm our commitment to helping children develop good nutrition habits and active lifestyles, so that they can grow into healthy and productive adults.

P.S. -- On October 1, the President declared "Child Health Day, 2007." On October 3, the President vetoed a bill in provide increased health care to children. Or, as he would say, "childrens." Fluency in at least one language should be a requirement of all candidates for national office. It's embarrassing to have the rest of the world know that 51% of Americans voted for a moron.

George,

We don't have 35 billion to give to children, if we do then we won't have enough for the brilliant strategist from the White House to war with everyone.

Thirty-five billion over five years (7 billion a year) is just too much money for a president who predicted in a conversation with Spanish PM Aznar on Feb. 22, 2002 that the invasion of Iraq would cost $50 billion. Counting the money approved for 2008, it has cost us over $750 billion and it will easily cost well over a trillion even if we somehow manage to get virtually all of our troops out within the next 18 months, which is highly unlikely at this point.

None of the cost estimates for the war in Iraq take into consideration the cost of the care of the tens of thousands of wounded veterans for the rest of their lives. In fact, the phony budget estimate the Bush administration put out for 2009 calls for a reduction in funding for veterans' affairs. They lie about everything, why should we expect them to not lie about something like caring for our wounded veterans.

Getting back to the veto of the expanded S-CHIP bill, I can't believe the Bush administration is this stupid! This is political suicide for the GOP. No matter how the White House tries to spin this, they are going to be crucified. Sixty-one percent of Republicans support this bill, along with 81% of Democrats and 69% of independents. You just don't veto a bill that has that much public support... unless you're a complete idiot!

The Democrats will now go to work on building public support to pressure some of the House members to reverse their positions and vote to override the veto. They have enough votes in the Senate but they're a little short in the House. In fact, eight Democratic House members voted against this bill, including Dennis Kucinich, who's acting more and more like Ralph Nader. I think at least half of those Democrats can be flipped. Then Nancy Pelosi just needs to flip a dozen Republicans.

I don't expect a quick vote to override. I think the Democrats will play this out for a few weeks to see if they can get enough House votes to override. In the meantime, expect to hear from a lot of Republicans (especially GOP senators up for reelection next year) telling us why they respectfully disagree with the President on this issue.

Re: They're off and running for the 2008 GOP nomination:

SCHIP has been effective for 10 years and is strongly supported by 45 Republicans and almost every Democrat in the House of Representatives; Republican Finance Chairman Chuck Grassley from Iowa, Conservative Senator Orrin Hatch, more than a dozen other Republican senators and every single Democrat in the Senate; 43 governors, including the conservative governor of Georgia, Sunny Purdue; and more than 250 grass-roots organizations all across the country have come out in favor of SCHIP.

I heard Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on teevee a little while ago saying that he will personally begin calling Republican House members to get them to switch their votes and override Bush's veto. Grassley said that he has been working closely with the White House since January on this bill but that the White House wasn't interested in any compromise. According to Grassley, it was "my way or the highway" on Bush's part. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) expressed dismay at the President's veto.

I think it's quite possible that the veto can be overridden. A few more Republican House members have to be convinced that voting against Bush on a matter involving children might actually be helpful to their reelection prospects.

Jay Leno: "President Bush, for some reason, has vetoed the child health insurance plan. I believe his comment was 'childrens do get sick, but childrens do get better again.'"

New official logo of the 2008 GOP convention

Check it out here.

Oops! My bad! That's the old Philadelphia A's logo.

Here's the new official logo of the 2008 Republican Party Convention, which apparently is being held in Minneapolis-Saint Paul next year. How can you hold a convention in two cities separated by the Mississippi river? I hope none of the bridges collapse while they're there.

So, whaddya think? Notice the "wide stance." I like the prison stripes. The starry eyes seem appropriate, too. Why is the elephant about to stomp all over 2008?

Why didn't they include a Mission Accomplished banner? Doesn't that usually go up before they actually do anything?

P.S. -- One nice thing about the GOP holding their convention in Minneapolis is that everybody can visit the Larry Craig men's room at the Minneapolis airport and now that Larry is not resigning from the Senate, maybe he'll be on hand to give guided tours?

Here's a prediction: Every TV newscast at the GOP convention will feature a segment on the Larry Craig men's room incident. They'll probably send a crew over to the airport men's room to conduct on site interviews asking men if they remember meeting Larry Craig there.

Re: They're off and running for the 2008 GOP nomination:

Jeri Thompson is attracted to men with Beanie Weenies

Jeri Thompson tells People magazine how she met her current husband.

They met July 4, 1996, at a supermarket checkout in Nashville -- the then-U.S. senator was buying a can of Beanie Weenies and half of a premade tuna fish sandwich. He carried her groceries to her car; she invited him to a party that night.

The romance flourished despite a 24-year age difference: "I was never an older-man-dater kind of girl before." It must have been the Beanie Weenies, plus the fact that she was a political consultant and he was a divorced U.S. senator at the time. Besides, what 29-year-old single woman wouldn't be interested in a man with Beanie Weenies who's also a member of the U.S. Senate and the AARP?

That whole young-blond-second-wife thing? "I almost think they had to fabricate that trophy wife stuff because there's nothing interesting to say."

P.S. -- Who celebrates the Fourth of July with Beanie Weenies and half a tuna fish sandwich?

Maybe, but I've never heard of it either, so I googled it for you.

The only reason I posted that was so that I could use that headline.
