Talking Bob Ney's lawyer has a favor to ask of you:

Nice hair!

The lawyer for convicted Republican Congressman Bob Ney would like us to write a letter to Judge Ellen Huvelle on his behalf. (Judge Ellen looks a lot like Judge Judy. I hope she chews him out!) Here's the address:

UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT
FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
333 Constitution Ave., NW
Washington, DC 20001

Letters of support are a very important part of the sentencing process, and, we hope, will give Judge Huvelle a clear picture of the kind of person Bob is, ...

The attorneys say there are no form letters to fill out, but offer suggestions as to what a letter could include: “Things that are important for the judge to know are your feelings about Bob’s character, ... his integrity, ... and anything else that you think will give the judge a full understanding of who Bob is and the work he has done.”

This should be fun!

P.S. -- Does the hair go with him to prison? Remember when Michael Milken showed up to serve his time without his wig?

Talking How about something like this?

Dear Judge Huvelle:

I am writing to you today on behalf of former Congressman Bob Ney (R-OH) who will come before the court on January 19th to be sentenced for a few minor indiscretions relating to "performing official acts for lobbyists in exchange for campaign contributions, expensive meals, luxury travel and skybox sports tickets." As I'm sure the court is aware, Mr. Ney's annual congressional salary of $165,200.00 is totally inadequate to provide the sort of lifestyle expected by a Republican member of Congress. Therefore, supplemental sources of income must be developed. When good citizens are kind-hearted enough to provide this supplemental income to their hard-working representatives, common courtesy demands that favors be done in return, everyone knows this.

We should be thankful that Mr. Ney was willing to take time out of his busy schedule in Washington, D. C. to travel all the way to Scotland for no other purpose than to play golf with one of his most generous contributors, Mr. Jack Abramoff. Someone had to do it and Majority Leader DeLay had already fulfilled his obligation in this regard, so Mr. Ney generously offered to accompany Mr. Abramoff and anti-gambling crusader, Ralph Reed, to St. Andrews even though he's not very good at golf and knows next to nothing about the evils of Indian casinos. He did it out of a sense of duty to his country.

I should also like to bring to the attention of the court the fact that Mr. Ney steadfastly held on to his seat in Congress even after pleading guilty to the aforementioned minor indiscretions. He was determined to do his duty to the very end. Such unselfish devotion to God and country should not go unrewarded.

It is my fervent hope that the court will provide Mr. Ney the sort of justice a man of his honor and integrity so richly deserves. The prosecution is recommending a mere 27 months confinement but, if it pleases the court, I believe Mr. Ney deserves more justice than that. At the very least, the court should add an extra two months to make up for the two months salary he drew after his conviction for those unfortunate indiscretions.

Respectfully,

It's the least we can do for our dearly departed Republican brothers and sisters. As Pastor Ted would say, "Hate the sin, love the sinner."
