Post Iran's Break from Reality

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's conference questioning the Holocaust.

FOXNews.com - KKK's David Duke Tells Iran Holocaust Conference That Gas Chambers Not Used to Kill Jews - International News | News of the World | Middle East News | Europe News

What can you say about a "conference" that features David Duke as a guest speaker.

The Holocaust is one of the best documented mass extermination events in history. I have personally talked to a survivor.

I am trying to figure out what Ahmadinejad is trying to accomplish, certainly not credibility in the world community.

Regards,

Scott

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a religious fanatic playing to his base. David Duke is a racist and a con artist who should not have been given airtime on CNN.

Looks like Ahmadinejad's opponents are doing better this time around according to reports in Al-Jazeera. They're having local council elections over there right now and the reformists are doing better than Ahmadinejad's pals.

That's an interesting and promising development.

Here's an update on the Iranian elections. The moderate candidates did much better this time than they did the last time.

The Assembly of Experts (which I believe is around 86 members) is the important body here in that they appoint the Supreme Leader. The Catch 22 is that the Supreme Leader can block "unfit" candidates from being eligible to run for the Assembly of Experts in the first place. That's a very big Catch 22 and it came into play a few years back when a large number of candidates were disqualified for being "unfit" -- meaning they were considered too pro-Western.

The real power in Iran is held by the Supreme Leader because he can veto any action of the President or the parliament by declaring that it is in conflict with Sharia principles. The Supreme Leader is slightly to the right of Ghengis Khan.
