A snorkeler in the Smith River near Reedsport, Oregon was shot in the head while looking at the various species of fish. Guy who shot him told authorities he thought he was shooting a nutria!

Have nutria made it all the way to Oregon???

The snorkeler will recover. The guy who shot him with a .22-caliber rifle is being held on assault charges, plus being a felon in possession of a firearm, methamphetamines and marijuana. I wonder if he's originally from coastal Louisiana or Texas?

I imagine Dick Cheney is getting ready for his testimony in the Scooter Libby trial next week. I still find it hard to believe that the defense will actually call him unless it's a trick play of some sort. If they put him on the stand and he claims some sort of executive privilege, that would give them an excuse to cry foul and ask for a mistrial. As long as they are careful not to cry fowl, in which case Deputy Leader Dick might accidentally shoot one of the lawyers.

The shooter in Oregon needs a good Republican lawyer to get him off the hook in this unfortunate incident. After all, if Deputy Leader Dick can shoot a lawyer in the face and claim he thought he was a quail, I don't see why this guy can't shoot a swimmer in the head and claim he thought he was a nutria, even in Oregon in February. Might have made more sense for him to say he thought he was a beaver or a river otter or something. I'm not sure there are any nutria in Oregon.

P.S. -- I think the shooter may be from Louisiana. Louisiana has a federally-funded $5-a-tail bounty on nutria.
