I keep seeing all those video clips online of people in New York with snow up to the eaves of their roof and here we are down here with another day in the mid-70's.

I wish I could say the same about my local weather. It is 27 degrees at the moment and feels like 17, with some snow showers in the forcast for the evening.
South Plainfield Weather Forecasts on Yahoo! Weather Overall I can't complaint much this winter, we had temperatures of over 50 degrees in late January and there was really no snow to speak of yet this year. Hopefully I can leave my snow blower in the garage this winter... ![]()

Gene,
We had mostly warm weather in December and January. In fact, I had to run my air-conditioning even at night three or four times in January. Last night we had a rain storm blow through. It woke me up it was so bad. Looks like New Orleans got hit with a tornado around 3:15 a.m.. That's about 50 miles away from me.

Gene,
The snow blower may have to come out tonight/tomorrow... we're having snow now, and as of now (the forecast changes every 4 hrs...) we are scheduled to turn to rain by like 3 am or so tonight. YOU on the other hand could get snow the whole time. Rebecca |

So far we got nothing... They did predict some rain showers that should be turning to all rain tomorrow. Some of it may be frozen precipitations, of course, but so far it is not even a drop of anything. I have a gut feeling that we will get lots of ice tomorrow and I will need an axe instead of snow blower... ![]()

Yes, 1 woman died and I think they said 29 hurt in the NO area. The woman that died was older (in her 80's) and was getting ready to move back into her home since they had just completed the repairs from Katrina but at the time of the tornado she was still living in a FEMA trailer and it was destroyed with her in it. I know it woke me up this morning when it came through around 3am.

Yeah, it woke me up, too, and I'm 65 miles from you. That lady's FEMA trailer was pretty much destroyed. It landed about 150 feet away from where it was and it was in a million pieces.
Here's a picture of what's left of her FEMA trailer:

WOW!
George is that temp typical for this time of year? I know the tornado is not typical, that is for sure. Gene did you get hammered with snow too? We have about 8" total, and it has all fallen in the last 2 weeks or so. We had virtually NO SNOW all winter, so this year has been crazy mild for us too. |

Yes, it's quite common for us to have temperatures in the mid-70's to low 80's in January or February but usually just for a couple of days or so. It's also quite common for us to have nights that dip into the upper 20's. This year we had a lot more warm days in January than cold days and in that respect, it was unusual. What was really unusual was having a week or ten days of weather in the low to mid-70's in January with overnight temps that didn't drop below the mid-60's for several nights in a row. Then we had a week or so of cold weather followed by that period of several days of warm weather in February that resulted in those tornadoes. Right now we're finished with that last little warm spell and temperatures at night should be in the low 30's again for the next few days.

Ya, I guess I should have clarified the time of year. We get Tornadoes too, but NOT in the winter months. This winter has been very mild, and I can't complain, even though the last 2 weeks or maybe a little longer have been VERY VERY COLD! A high of 0 and a low of -15 is not fun! Not to mention the wind chill, heck Logan had school cancelled last week for 3 days due to COLD! I never had that when I was a kid that's for sure.

Re: Ten feet of snow in upstate New York, 77 degrees F down here in Louisiana:
We didn't get much on the snow front, maybe an inch or two. However, we had pretty nasty freezing rain first part of the day and later it turn to snow ( tail end of the storm) and ended quickly. North-West part of the state got between 7-11 inches of snow. I didn;t even break out my snow blower this time around. Just used a shovel ( stupid thing to do, really
) Mike, it;s been really cold here as well. Single digits overnight last week and in the teens daytime. I need a vacation... ![]()

Hey Ninong, I think (unless they have changed the forecast again) we (north of the lake) are supposed to be in the low 20's tonight. Man this is some crazy weather.

WWL had forecast the low for Slidell to be 23...glad it didn't drop that low...at least yet. My weather station (yes I am a weather geek too and have a weather station set up) stated at 4:30 it was 27.6 degrees. May drop another degree or two before sunrise.

George,
Wow, I was looking at that Carrollton area of New Orleans. That was an area where people had just finished rebuilding from Katrina. Regards, Scott

Yeah, rub it in...
It's 41 up here and we even had some rumbles of thunder this afternoon, and it rained like mad, too. II think it's supposed to be like 32 and snow showers tomorrow... No wonder people are sick like dogs around here(like in my house).
