Looks like Skeletor is no longer at the top of the short list to replace Gonzo the Magnificent!

Believe it or not, it looks like the White House may be trying to avoid a confirmation battle over the new attorney general. Chertoff has reportedly told them he's not interested in the job because he doesn't want to go before the Senate to get his brains beat out.

Gonzo's last day on the job is September 17th and the White House is expected to announce his replacement on that day.

So, as of right now, Vitter has not really admitted anything at all. He could still claim that he and the ladies he hired through the D.C. Madam spent the evening playing chess or discussing foreign policy.

    Ah, ha!!!

Those sneaky federal prosecutors have located Paula Neble, one of the D.C. Madam's hookers who was one of Sen. Vitter's favorites.

    Guess what?

If you guessed that they have granted her immunity in exchange for her testimony that she engaged in illegal acts of prostitution with Sen. Vitter, you win a prize, or something.

WTOP has learned that Neble's AT&T cell phone number appeared 1,590 times in Palfrey's records, including in conjunction with calls to Vitter.

Palfrey has said when a customer requested an escort she would call the woman to check availability. She would then call the customer to confirm the location of the encounter and call the escort back to say where to meet the customer.

On Oct. 12, 1999 Palfrey's outgoing phone records indicate she called Neble at 5:54 p.m., immediately called Vitter at 5:57 p.m. then called Neble back at 5:59 p.m.

Vitter's spokesman Joel DiGrado did not respond to several phone requests for comment.

Neble has not been charged in connection with Palfrey's case, and will testify for the prosecution, in return for immunity, sources say. Palfrey has repeatedly argued she is the victim of selective prosecution, and that her former employees and customers should also face charges.

Now 36, Neble has gone to some lengths to protect her anonymity. Court records show she applied to legally change her name in 2001, and was granted the change in 2002. At the time she listed her job title as "consultant."

LARRY FLYNT: "SENATOR DAVID VITTER IS A LIAR."

    September 5, 2007

    THE HUSTLER PUBLISHER CHALLENGES VITTER:

FORMER NEW ORLEANS ESCORT WENDY CORTEZ, WHO CLAIMED AN AFFAIR WITH VITTER, PASSED A POLYGRAPH TEST. LET’S SEE THE SENATOR DO THE SAME.

In 2002, New Orleans escort Wendy Cortez told local reporters she had an extended affair with U.S. Senator David Vitter in 1999, when he was a Louisiana state representative. The allegations, first reported by political columnist Christopher Tidmore in the Louisiana Weekly, were published anew by the Times-Picayune in the wake of Vitter’s admission that he had called D.C. Madam Deborah Jeane Palfrey in 2001. Despite being a self-confessed client of the D.C. Madam, Vitter told the entire country that the stories in the New Orleans press were “not true.”

Suspecting that Vitter was again lying, Larry Flynt sought out Wendy Cortez, whose real name is Wendy Ellis, and flew her to Los Angeles for a lie-detector test. The polygraph examination was conducted by Edward Gelb, recognized by his peers as the leading polygraphist in the country. Asked if she had a sexual relationship with Vitter through a New Orleans escort service for at least four months, Ellis answered in the affirmative. According to Gelb, the result of both the manual and computerized scoring was “NDI,” meaning “no deception indicated, with a probability of deception of less than .01.” In other words, Wendy Ellis passed the test with flying colors.

Larry Flynt has now proven that Vitter repeatedly lied to the American people and is unfit to legislate in their name. When he apologized for “a serious sin” in his past, Vitter glossed over the fact that the D.C. Madam’s phone records show he “sinned” at least five times. Now, with the vindication of Wendy Ellis’s account, we know that Vitter was a frequent patron of “escort” services even before he went to Washington.

Re: It looks like A.Gonzales may be getting a boot

Gonzo the Magnificent's resignation is effective Sept. 17th...

Who will Bush nominate to succeed him? The White House has been meeting with Senate leaders from both sides trying to come up with a consensus nominee but it's still quite possible that Bush will nominate someone he knows is unacceptable to the Democrats. He can't help it, that's just the way he is.

Right now the rumor mill has it that Ted Olson is at the top of the short list. He is definitely not acceptable to the Democrats and Bush knows it. Which makes me think he might be the nominee.

If Bush nominates Olson, all hell will break loose in the Senate. Which is another reason I think Bush might do it. It would give him ammunition to portray the Democrats as obstructionists who disagree with him on everything just because they don't like him or his stupid policies.

If Democrats object to Bush's AG nominee, Bush will claim that the only reason Democrats object to his Iraq policy is that they object to everything!

Simple, I know, but Bush is nothing if not simple-minded.

Re: It looks like A.Gonzales may be getting a boot

    Mañana is Adios Gonzo Day.

CNN is reporting that Bush has given up on Ted Olson and will instead nominate Michael Mukasey, who is definitely a conservative Republican but acceptable to a majority of senators, including many Democrats.

This guy is probably the best the Democrats can hope for. It's not a Supreme Court nomination, it's just the head of the Justice Department and just for the next 16 months. He certainly can't be any worse than Gonzo the Magnificent and Ted Olson would have been another Bush Administration Dittohead. Mukasey will be harder to push around. He has his reputation to think of and won't be as willing to roll over for the Bushies like Olson would.

    Gonzo lawyers up!

Gonzo the Magnificent has hired himself a fancy criminal lawyer to defend him against the Department of Justice, the same department that Gonzo used to head. Gonzo is concerned that Glenn Fine, the Justice Department's Inspector General, may be out to make a name for himself by throwing Gonzo under the proverbial bus.

Both the House and Senate continue to interview current and former Justice Department officials whose recollection of events is substantially different from Gonzo's. His new lawyer issued a statement saying that everything Gonzo did, he did for the protection of the American people during a very difficult time and it was never his intention to violate any laws.

    Gonzo Gets No Respect

Pomona College has cancelled plans to have Gonzo the Magnificent speak to their students.

Pourquoi? Or, as Gonzo would say, por qué?

On the one hand, Gonzo was asking the modest sum of "$35,000 in addition to first-class accommodations" and on the other hand, it was determined that zero students were interested in hearing anything he might have to say.

As their Professor of Politics Heather Williams puts it:

"Call me old fashioned, but I think there’s something really gross about a celebrity lecture circuit that rewards people for misconduct, scandal, and even felony crimes."

Very well put I think. Why would you pay someone 35 grand to do song and dance schtick?
    Kind regards,

Doesn't it seem rather tacky to charge college students $35,000 just to talk to them?

It's just as tacky as "celebrity" baseball players charging kids for signing baseball memorabilia.Well, they charging kids parents, of course, but I find this tasteless nonetheless.

You can read about it here.

Why so many agencies? Because that's how many different government agencies the White House has admitted received Karl Rove's PowerPoint briefing pointing out which Democratic seats were being targeted and what they could do in their jobs to help.

All of this is a violation of federal law, which is why Lurita Doan is in hot water. She's the head of the GSA who couldn't remember anything when she testified recently before Congress.

Yes, it's going to be a long, hot summer for Karl Rove.
    What took them so long?

Lurita Doan, GSA Administrator, was finally fired yesterday and she's not going quietly into the good night. Haha!

Her congressional testimony was always good for a few laughs. She kept repeating over and over again that she didn't remember anything. Remember when she instructed her assistant to take her water glass because she didn't want "them" to get her "fingerprints" and it was picked up by the microphone and broadcast live?

P.S. -- Lurita is from New Orleans.

    Lurita Doan's Hilarious Congressional Testimony

I found a video clip excerpt of Lurita's congressional testimony where she claims to have no recollection whatsoever of anything that took place during a meeting she attended.

    So Long, Lurita!

Here's a really hilarious video clip of some of Lurita Doan's finer moments during her congressional testimony.
