I've been using bearshare, which can be had in cnet.com. It utilizes the gnutella engine. You can get not only music, but full apps and games. Just be sure to delete the spyware that comes with it. Good program though IMO. Its not the most secure, but works pretty good. I like it alot more than napster.

Only porblem I have found with it so far is the sound quality seems poorer than what I got at npster. That may be the other end posting poor quality songs. I had to d/l a song 4 times to get a good sounding copy of it. Other than that it's pretty good, wonder how long before the record industry starts on this one?

I've been using audiogalaxy. It's pretty clunky, but it works through our firewall at work so I can take advantage of the t1.....

Thats the beauty of the gnutella software. There is no way the industry can regulate it. Its truly person to person, there are no files stored on a central server. There are plenty of programs out there that use it. Is the Morpheus a gnutella based software?

I don't use any of them anymore. I've got a library of about 5000(yes...5000) MP3 files. I'm happy

aragorn,

those 5k at a decent bitrate? was wondering if you have an ftp server up. i certainly wouldn't mind taking a look at your collection some time. i would be happy to reciprocate...i only have around 2k and cable for a connection. elt me know if you would like to swap some time. i can bring up my ftp server and let it run overnight if i have more than a few songs that you're interested in. all mine [afaik] are 160 and above, and have been checked for skips and pops. i still find songs with probs every once in a while but rarely. country, classical [mostly guitar], 60/70/80/90's just about everything that i could think of off the top of my head when i found out napster was getting the boot.

regards,
rs

Ronjon,

Actually I have considered bringing an ftp server online. All the MP3's are 128 and above. You name it, chances are we got it. Everything from classical, ska, rock(all formats), reggae, blues, country, etc. Enough to fill 40GB's worth. Between myself, my wife, and 3 teenagers, we filled my server fast!

Nice selection,

I just created a playlist file myself: 5350 files. I've got it in TXT format if you'd like to look at it.

Have any of you tried out direct connect? It is another file shariing program. With this program you can select files and folders on your computer to share with others. You can find all kinds of MP3's, movies, and applications. I have seen zipped copies of windows 2000, Office 2000 Premium and all kinds of other applications that are available. Some of the hubs have minimum share requirements and they will kick you out if you don't meet them. There is a lot of junk on direct connect, but you can usually find some pretty good stuff if you know where to look. You can download the program by going to download.com and typing "direct connect" in a search.
