Yes, those are the cover stories on those two major American news magazines but we won't read about it over here because those stories are only for their various overseas editions. Instead of "Talibanistan," Time treats American readers to a cover story on "Why We Should Teach the Bible in Public School."

Instead of "Losing Afghanistan," Newsweek treats it's American audience to a story about a lesbian photographer who photographs celebrities.

You really have to love that "Why We Should Teach the Bible in Public School" cover on Time. I wish they had reversed things and ran that idiotic cover on their international editions. Talk about becoming the laughingstock of the entire known world overnight!

The sad thing is that the majority of our population seems to be far more interested in celebrities (ref. coverage of Anna Nicole's demise, demand for photos of Ms. Jolie's latest addition, etc.).

I guess it all boils down to the yen, deutschmark, pound or buck, and what the publisher thinks will sell... which unfortunately contributes to the "dumbing down" of America.

While it is true, I also noticed that not many Americans want to read anyway. Which is a far cry from when I came here and went for the first time to the library.., it was full of people looking and reading and learning...
