Arrow And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.

Yes, they'll know we are Christians by our love.

The Westboro Baptist Church choir spreading their love.

The Westboro Baptist Church's official website has a full listing of the times, dates and addresses for all the upcoming funerals of American servicemen and women whose funerals they intend to disgrace with their disgusting presence.

They also visit funerals of other people, like innocent children killed in a bus crash, if it gets them media coverage.

Re: And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.

The day after the Virginia Tech killings, they announced that they would be picketing all of those funerals but I haven't seen anything about that so far.

I'm glad they made this video. I wish they would make more just like it. It gives sane people a chance to see just how crazy these lunatics really are.

Unhappy Re: And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.

George,

It is pretty sad to see the pail of churches that stick the word “Baptist” into their name.

But I can’t think of anyone at my Baptist church that would associate themselves with the collection of hate filled, sociopaths.

Regards,

Scott

Re: And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.

Fred Phelps is a piece of work alright! Must have been something in the water at Bob Jones University when he went there in the 1940's.

I guess he gets to call his little band of merry idiots Westboro Baptist Church because he's an ordained Baptist minister. The Baptists need to have a way to "defrock" ordained ministers who turn into raving lunatics.

Re: And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.

Jon Stewart has a nice video clip that refutes Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth from a "Christian" perspective. It seems that a parent in Seattle protested that his daughter's school should not be allowed to show Gore's film because it didn't represent the Christian view of global warming. The Daily Show interviewed that parent to allow him to explain global warming from a "Christian" point of view.

Post Re: And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.

Hi All,

OK, Here’s a Christian perspective:

Genesis 1:28 …”Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the Earth…”

He did not say exploit, pollute, overpopulate and destroy it.

To do such and then blame God on the outcome is blasphemy in its vilest form.

Regards,

Scott

Re: And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.

Scott,

That's your interpretation of Genesis 1:28.

To quote Ann Coulter, the well-known conservative Republican and self-ordained theologian:
  • The ethic of conservation is the explicit abnegation of man's dominion over the Earth. The lower species are here for our use. God said so: Go forth, be fruitful, multiply, and rape the planet — it's yours. That's our job: drilling, mining and stripping. Sweaters are the anti-Biblical view. Big gas-guzzling cars with phones and CD players and wet bars — that's the Biblical view.

While we're on the subject of famous Baptist ministers, be sure to check out the Trivia section on this one.

Re: And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.

Is religious discussion even allowed on this forum?
I hope this doesnt turn into a 'bash Christians' thread, it seems Christians today are fair game, I guess its 'cause Christians Don't threaten to 'behead the infidels'!
Anyway, the Westboro Baptist Church hardly represents Christianity in America. And is offensive and an embaressment to the rest of us believers.

Yes. In fact, we've had quite a few religious discussions in this forum, some more serious than others. This is one of the less serious ones. This one falls into the category of "can you top this?"

You might call this a "bash the idiots" thread. As long as you're not an idiot, you shouldn't take offense.

We all know that the good folks at Westboro Baptist Church are not representative of anything other than Fred Phelps and his particular brand of lunacy but I thought the fact that they are now making music videos was hilarious. We have given a lot of play to Ted Haggard's hilarious videos in the past so why not mention Fred Phelps' hilarious videos?

Speaking of videos and the evil deeds that are done in the name of God, check out this story. That is so sad!

Dude, I'm certainly sympathetic to liberal politics (for the most part), but it is so not fair to quote Ann Coulter when attempting to represent the conservative side of anything... the woman is an embarassment to her own people, and indeed, all humanity.

Arrow The American Conservative Union loves Ann Coulter!

How can you say that? This woman is a highly respected member of the conservative movement. She was the star of the recent Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC 2007) held March 1-3, 2007 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. It was the largest CPAC to date with almost 7,000 in attendance.

You might even say that she was the keynote speaker at that conference. She was warmly introduced by Mitt Romney, who was obviously thrilled to be on the same stage with a conservative icon of Ann's stature. (Mitt has an image problem and associating with true conservatives like Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin is good for his image.)

Speakers at CPAC 2007 included:Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin are two of my favorite conservative Republicons!

Our Lady of the Concentration Camps, Michelle Malkin, has put together this cute little video. Isn't that inspirational? Wow! Maybe Bill O'Reilly will persuade Michelle to perform her little number on his show.

While speaking to the ACU at CPAC on March 2nd, 2007, Ann Coulter insinuated that Democratic candidate John Edwards was a "faggot." Many in the audience gasped, then laughed and applauded.

I guess the folks at CPAC were trying to show how tolerant they are of gays in the military because they awarded the first Jeane Kirkpatrick award that evening to Matt Sanchez, a Marine Corps Reserve corporal who is a famous gay movie star. He has appeared in no less than two dozen gay adult films under the names "Rod Majors" and "Pierre LaBranche." It's nice to see that the conservatives have such liberal views.

Re: And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.

I say that because she's an extremist... and yeah, she may be welcomed by her fellow extremists at conferences and what not, but I honestly don't think she represents the more "average" conservative American.

Just look at the fact that when she makes these outrageous comments, they hardly ever make headline news. In contrast, if John McCain or any more broadly respected republican (or even Bush or Cheney) were to make such comments, it would get all the buzz and outrage.

In my opinion, relying on Ann Coulter as the "voice of conservatives" is something like relying on Pat Robertson as the voice of conservative Christians. Sure he might get welcomed a conference and I'm sure he has his supporters... but I highly doubt he actually represents the greater idealogy of conservative Christianity (at least not in modern days).

That's tantamount to saying that the current Republican Party leaders aren't representative of the "average" conservative American because it's plain that the Republican Party leaders adore Ann Coulter. Her outrageous, hateful, extremist views are well known and yet she is repeatedly invited to speak at Republican Party events and is a frequent guest on the Republican Party's TV channel, Faux News.

Ms Coulter says that she is putting voice to what the Republicans are really thinking but are too timid to say and that's why they adore her. If they didn't agree with her or were in any way embarrassed by her comments, why would they freely associate with her?

The truth is that the Republican Party loves Ann Coulter! She's their hero! Her values are their values!

Maybe it's time for true conservatives to wake up and realize that Republicans are not conservatives! Compassionate conservatism is neither compassionate nor conservative!

Liberalism is the true conservatism!

Exactly... the average American (conservative or liberal) does not follow politics to the extent that most of them could even so much as name the Republican party leaders past the members of the Bush administration. In fact, I would bet you that most "average" conservatives have never listened to Ann Coulter (assuming they even know who she is past "tall, blond conservative chick").

I might agree with you there. The original Republicans were, at their hearts, libertarians... and it seems to be that they've strayed quite far since then (unfortunately).

Re: And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.

Ninong- as a general note, I think you focus faaar too much on these Republican party leaders. Attacking them is easy and probably won't get you anywhere. If you want to change the world, try to change the way the *average* person thinks.

The average American conservative isn't going to be moved into questioning their beliefs because Ann Coulter called someone a "faggot." As long as they believe that the Republican party is actively fighting abortion, gay marriage, gun control and terrorism, they're just not going to care about much else. If you want to get to them, try to convince them that these fundamental interests are misguided. Show them that gay marriage may not actually be such a crime against humanity... appeal to their libertarian roots and their patriotism in America as a country that idolizes freedom.

Focusing so much and so narrowly on an enemy is just going to alienate you from the people who might actually, as a collective voice, be able to change the way that enemy behaves.

I'm not interested in changing the world.

I'm too old to be concerned about what other people think about me. I enjoy focusing on the hypocrites and lunatics of this world. The regular folks are no fun at all.

...fair enough. I guess I'm coming from a different perspective. I'm still young and hopeful and would like to see my fellow American become a bit more wise to what they're arguing for or against. I guess I would like to see the world change that way...
