So, remember that famous speech by Nelson Mandela? You know, the "who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? etc..."? Well, the truth is that those weren't actually his own words. He was quoting the brilliant Marianne Williamson (a Jewish ex-cabaret singer from Houston, TX).

The quotation is from her book "Return to Love." My mom bought it for me for my birthday (I think)... so far it's not bad.

For someone who seems to be making a career out of research, one would think you would be a bit more careful.

"It's a total urban myth," Williamson said of the idea that Mandela uttered her words, much less included them in his 1994 inauguration speech after he was elected president of South Africa. "I have absolutely no idea how it happened." Reference

Ah, well, however it happened, I think it's interesting that the words got attached to him (even to the extent that film directors would assume they were his). I'm really curious as to how this happened.... do you know?

Btw... I'm not actually making a career of research. Lawyers do end up doing a lot of research sometimes, but that's not really what the profession is about. Law is more about applying what facts you have available to a particular problem.
