Sometimes the headlines just seem to write themselves.
Rev. Coy Privette, a prominent Republican lawmaker with a 30-year career and outspoken advocate for Christian groups, was arrested at his home in Kannapolis, North Carolina early Thursday on six misdemeanor charges of paying a prostitute for sex acts. Privette serves on the state Baptist Convention of North Carolina and as president of the Christian Action League of North Carolina. You can read all about Pastor Coy's Christian Hooker Action here. P.S. -- Fellow Baptist ministers said they will keep Pastor Coy, his wife Betty, their four daughters and eleven grandchildren in their prayers during this difficult time. No word yet on when Pastor Coy will enter rehab.

Re: GOP Pres. of Christian Action League Arrested for Christian Action with a Hooker!
Pastor Coy Privette, a retired Baptist minister and former President of the State Baptist Convention of North Carolina, has announced his intention to resign from his leadership post with the State Baptist Convention, convention leaders said Friday.
The Christian Action League of North Carolina suspended Privette, 74, as its president Thursday until the court case on the six counts of aiding and abetting prostitution is resolved. Privette has also spent decades as a Republican state legislator and county commissioner in Cabarrus. Warrants issued by the SBI on Thursday accuse Privette of paying Tiffany Denise Summers, 32, of Salisbury, for sexual acts from May 4 through June 25 in a Salisbury hotel room. He was handcuffed and taken to a Rowan County magistrate Thursday, then released on a written promise to appear in court Aug. 22. Privette didn't return to his Kannapolis home once reporters started showing up on his block following the arrest. He called County Manager John Day to say he was leaving town, Day said. ![]() Rev. Coy Privette, 74 Tiffany Denise Summers, 32 You can read the rest here. P.S. -- How rude of all those nosy media people to harass all these good Christian family values Republicans by showing up in front of their homes seeking public comments about their alleged hypocritical behavior. No mention about diapers. Sen. David Vitter was reportedly spreading the Luvs around but I suspect Pastor Coy may be more of a Depends sort of guy. Tiffany Denise Summers says she has put the past behind her and has found Jesus. Maybe she should be the new president of the Christian Action League, the fine organization that is very active in attacking immorality in all its forms? She certainly has the experience -- her rap sheet includes previous arrests for prostitution, drug possession and possessing stolen goods -- and now that she has repented, the North Carolina Baptist Convention should consider offering her the job. Besides, she's currently out of work.

Re: GOP Pres. of Christian Action League Arrested for Christian Action with a Hooker!
![]() Somebody Really Should Do Something Christian Action League President Charged with Participating in Prostitution July 21, 2007 ![]() Coy Privette Christian Action League of North Carolina, Inc Special Update Included Christian Action League president, Coy Privette was arrested Thursday, July 19 on six counts of aiding and abetting prostitution. Privette was released on the promise that he would appear in court, August 22. At a press conference in Raleigh late Thursday, Rev. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League, gave the following statement and then fielded questions from the press: It is with tremendous sadness that the Christian Action League has learned that it’s President, Coy Privette was arrested today at his home in Kannapolis and charged with six counts of aiding and abetting prostitution. As Executive Director of the Christian Action League, I know that I speak for all of the members of the Board of Directors and its trustees when I say that we are shocked and dismayed at these allegations. We have attempted to contact Mr. Privette and hear his explanation of the matter, but we have been unable to reach him. Because we have been unable to speak with Mr. Privette and because we are committed to the principle of due process, the Board of Directors has decided that under the circumstances, the Christian Action League immediately suspends Mr. Privette’s duties as President of the Christian Action League and his membership of the Board of Directors, pending the outcome of this matter. Rev. David Hansley of Kinston, N.C., and currently Vice President of the Christian Action League, will assume the reins as President. Our hearts are deeply burdened by this news. We are praying for Mr. Privette, his family, and all those that this situation affects. In an interview with the Charlotte Observer, Creech said: “We have a responsibility to reserve judgment, but it’s also important to preserve the integrity of this organization.” Creech says that a situation of this nature always poses problems for an organization like the Christian Action League, but he does not believe that it will hinder its work with legislators. “Legislators know better than anyone that one man doesn’t represent the whole body.” Creech said he fully trusts that its supporters understand that nothing of this nature has ever happened in the long history of the ministry. “The Christian Action League has been an organization of considerable integrity with a positive record for honest, effective, and good moral leadership,” he said. “We remain undaunting in our commitment to that principle.” See Video: Christian Group President Facing Prostitution Charges Former state legislator Coy C. Privette - a Cabarrus County commissioner, retired Baptist minister and president of the Christian Action League of North Carolina charged with aiding and abetting prostitution. Update: After this article was written, Rev. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League, received the following email from Mr. Privette: —– Original Message —– From: coy1 To: calact Sent: Friday, July 20, 2007 3:48 PM Subject: Resignation Mark: Because of the nature of the allegations, I believe it is in the best interest for me to resign so that the charges will not distract from the important work of the Christian Action League. Coy P.S. -- Nice motto: "Somebody really should do something." I also found this on their website: "Dedicated to the preservation of the family."

Re: GOP Pres. of Christian Action League Arrested for Christian Action with a Hooker!
Things I learned from the Christian Action League website:
I learned about the horrors of Destructive Sex Education I learned that some school boards want to teach something called "comprehensive sex education" instead of "abstinence-only sex education." They want to replace abstinence-based education with filthy science-based education. Instead of telling our children to never do it until they are married and then never do it with anyone other than your spouse, they want to teach them how to do it and avoid pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, which is God's punishment for people who engage in sexual activity outside of marriage. Excerpt: But there is another reason why abstinence-based education is superior to comprehensive sex education. It has to do with the Creator’s design for sex, God’s expressed will for human sexuality. “Protected promiscuity” has no part in that plan. Sex within the context for which it was intended — lifelong, monogamous marriage — is always safe. This is the message our kids need to hear from the earliest days of childhood. Anything less is worse than third-rate and cannot guarantee protection from the harmful physical and emotional effects of sex outside of marriage. I wonder if Pastor Coy used one of those evil condoms when he engaged in "protected promiscuity?" It's bad enough that he obviously committed adultery but I hope he didn't compound his sin by engaging in "protected promiscuity." As president of the Christian Action League, I'm sure Pastor Coy knows all about the evils of condoms. I think I found the loophole Pastor Coy will use to justify his adultery. According to the Christian Action League website, the 1631 edition of the King James Version of the Bible originally had a printer's error. They left out the word "not" and the Commandment read: Thou shalt commit adultery. Obviously, Pastor Coy must have one of those 1631 editions. Excerpt: Most people don't usually think of the Bible as a wicked document. But that's exactly what people thought of the 1631 edition of the King James Version. It seems when the printers went to print that particular edition, an error was made, and the word "not" was left out of the Seventh Commandment. Instead of the commandment reading, "Thou shalt not commit adultery," it read, "Thou shalt commit adultery." It would seem on the basis of contemporary sexual morals, however, that today most would prefer "The Wicked Bible." At no other time in our nation's history has there been a greater disdain for this great commandment of God. Nevertheless, the Seventh Commandment, "Thou shalt not commit adultery," which could also be correctly translated, "Thou shalt not commit sexual immorality," is the Creator's law – an eternal verity that guards the great institution of marriage, the sanctity of the family, and the preservation of society. I can see why maybe it was a good idea for Pastor Coy to resign as president of this outfit. One could look at what they claim and compare it to what Pastor Coy is accused of doing and realize that there is more than a little bit of hypocrisy here. Update: Pastor Coy announced that he is resigning from the Board of Directors of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina and its Executive Committee. He is also a former board member of the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and the Southern Baptists' Christian Life Commission. He was also Director of Missions at Rowan Baptist Association of North Carolina up until July 19, 2007. A spokesperson for Rowan Baptist said that Pastor Coy is no longer their Director of Missions as of July 19, 2007 but refused to provide any further details. What about crystal meth? Did anybody ask about that? Did he buy some just to throw it away, like Pastor Ted Haggard did? Pastor Ted is no longer gay, by the way. They prayed it out of him in only three weeks. Surprised the hell out of Daddy Dobson who estimated Ted's degayification process would take at least five years.

Re: GOP Pres. of Christian Action League Arrested for Christian Action with a Hooker!
Let us pray...
Authorities identified Tester as the minister of Gospel Baptist Church in Bristol and an employee of Christian radio station WZAP-AM, also in Bristol. WZAP issued a statement asking for prayers and saying Tester has been suspended during an investigation. Here. I think I'll copy that story here because sometimes these links go dead after a couple of weeks: August 1, 2007 JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- A Baptist minister has been charged in Tennessee with indecent exposure and driving under the influence. Police said 58-year-old Tommy Tester of Bristol, Va., was wearing a skirt when he was arrested last week after allegedly relieving himself in front of children at a car wash. A report also accuses Tester of offering police officers oral sex and says an open bottle of vodka and empty oxycodone prescription bottle was found in his car when Tester was arrested Friday. Authorities identified Tester as the minister of Gospel Baptist Church in Bristol and an employee of Christian radio station WZAP-AM, also in Bristol. WZAP issued a statement asking for prayers and saying Tester has been suspended during an investigation. Tester was released Friday on $1,000 bail. A hearing is scheduled for October. P.S. -- The Giuliani campaign issued a statement saying that Rev. Tester is not employed by them in any capacity as far as they know but they're still checking. No word yet on whether Pastor Tommy has entered rehab.

Re: GOP Pres. of Christian Action League Arrested for Christian Action with a Hooker!
Quote:
Whatever happened to him? I haven't heard much about him lately other than the fact that he is now 100% straight. The New Life Church that Pastor Ted founded, sent him to Phoenix to this place to "continue the restoration process." Senior Pastor Tommy Barnett was one of the men who helped Ted pray the gay away. Evidently there's more to it than that. He now has to undergo what they call a "restoration process." This could take a while. In the meantime, New Life Church continues to pay Ted his full salary. That was part of the deal they made with him when he and his family agreed to leave Colorado Springs and never come back. Looks like New Life Church has found themselves a new head pastor to replace the dearly departed Pastor Ted. The new guy, Pastor Brady Boyd, is a country boy from northwestern Louisiana. Guess what? Pastor Brady has his own website. I found it by simply typing pastorbrady.com into my browser. ![]() "I begin (sic) to question everything I was taught and by my 16th year had decided to give myself to every worldly pleasure I could find. For the next five years, I experimented with marijuana, alcohol, and immorality." No mention of crystal meth, so I guess he's OK. No wonder these guys all have to be born again. And again. And again. BTW, Pastor Brady won't have to worry about as many church members or staff at New Life Church as Pastor Ted and he won't have to worry about being head of the 30-million strong evangelical association either. New Life Church has lost 4,000 members since Pastor Ted departed and they have had to lay off 44 staff members. That still leaves them with a membership of 10,000, a staff of 150 and a $12 million annual take. That's peanuts! Remember when Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker were raking in $150 million a year before the feds caught up with them and sent Jim to prison? And then, while Jim was in prison, his good buddy Jerry Falwell conned him out of his gig because that's what Jesus told him to do. And poor Tammy Faye has had bad luck with husbands. She divorced Jim after he was sent to prison and married another preacher man but the feds sent him to prison, too.

Re: GOP Pres. of Christian Action League Arrested for Christian Action with a Hooker!
Pastor Coy pleads GUILTY, gets 48 hrs community service
From something called the Biblical Recorder: Privette confesses, receives deferred prosecution SALISBURY - Moral activist and former Baptist State Convention (BSCNC) president Coy Privette received "deferred prosecution" on six charges of aiding and abetting prostitution during a hearing Aug. 22 at Rowan County Courthouse. Privette, a Cabarrus County commissioner and former executive director of the Christian Action League of North Carolina, admitted to investigators that he had sex with an accused prostitute, according to the prosecutor at the hearing. "Deferred prosecution" means Privette, who resigned from the BSCNC board after his arrest in July, will have his record wiped clean if he performs 48 hours of community service, complies with probation requirements for a year and pays court and probation costs. P.S. -- Pastor Coy asked everyone to continue to pray for his restoration. I think that's what it's officially called. And while they're at it, maybe they could pray that he recovers from his profound stupidity. He paid for the motel room on six different occasions in his own name! The prostitute he was hooking up with on a regular basis used her cell phone camera to record their intimate encounters. Who said God doesn't have a sense of humor!

Re: GOP Pres. of Christian Action League Arrested for Christian Action with a Hooker!
Pastor Ted "No-Longer-Gay" Haggard needs your help!
If you promise to send him a monthly check for the next two years to help him meet his living expenses, you will be "rewarded in heaven." It seems that he's having a hard time getting by on the $138,000 a year he's still receiving from the New Life Church, but not so hard that it would force him to sell his $715,000 house in Colorado Springs. It's just temporary for the next two years while he and his wife go to college to become psychologists. "It looks as though it will take two years for us to have adequate earning power again, so we are looking for people who will help us monthly for two years. During that time we will continue as full time students, and then, when we graduate, we won't need outside support any longer." ![]() "Any help we can get with this will be greatly appreciated and, I believe, rewarded in heaven." So there you have it boys and girls, Ted is not only completely straight now thanks to three weeks of intensive "restoration," but he's back to his old ways of passing the collection basket. You can read Pastor Ted's heartfelt cash-for-heaven offer here.

Re: GOP Pres. of Christian Action League Arrested for Christian Action with a Hooker!
Note to Pastor Ted's gullible supporters: you can't take a tax deduction for a gift to a charity that no longer exists.
In Pastor Ted's cash-for-heaven letter that he sent out to thousands of his former flock, he suggested that people who "need a tax deduction for their gift" should "write their check to 'Families With A Mission' and attach a note on it that it is "for the Haggard family." If people want to support us directly, they can mail checks to Ted and Gayle Haggard, 9699 N. Hayden, Suite 108, PMB 180, Scottsdale, AZ 95259. This is a private mail box address that we have been using since we moved to the Phoenix area. If any supporters need a tax deduction for their gift, they can mail it to Families With a Mission at P.O. Box 63125, Colorado Springs, CO 80962. The supporters would need to write their check to "Families With A Mission" and put a separate note on it that it is for the Haggard family, then Families With a Mission will mail us 90% of the funds for support and use 10% for administrative costs. According to documents on file with the Colorado Secretary of State, Families With a Mission "voluntarily dissolved" on February 23, 2007. There is only one name on file with the Colorado Secretary of State in connection with Families With a Mission: Paul Huberty. Paul Huberty is a registered sex offender. No mention of crystal meth or whether his "restoration" was successful or not. You can read all about it here.

Re: GOP Pres. of Christian Action League Arrested for Christian Action with a Hooker!
Pastor Ted's financial appeal made the front page of the Colorado Springs newspaper.
According to The Gazette, Pastor Ted forgot to get permission from his overseers before sending out his cash-for-heaven appeal: Haggard received a salary of $115,000 for the 10 months he worked in 2006 and an $85,000 anniversary bonus before the scandal broke, according to church officials. The church’s board of trustees gave him a severance package that included a year’s salary ($138,000). He also collects royalties on his many book titles. Haggard owns a home in Colorado Springs that has been for sale. It has a market value of $715,051, according to records from the El Paso County assessor. One of Haggard’s overseers, Mike Ware, senior pastor at Victory Church in Westminster, said he had not spoken to Haggard since the e-mail came out a couple of days ago. “We will review that his statement was premature, and we will talk to him about that. It is not an official release from us,” Ware said. Ware wouldn’t comment on the propriety of Haggard’s plea for money but said he felt it was premature of Haggard to release the statement without first consulting the overseers. The Dream Center is run by Pastor Tommy Barnett, another of the ministers appointed to oversee Haggard’s spiritual restoration. Barnett heads the 15,000-member megachurch Phoenix First Assembly of God.

Re: GOP Pres. of Christian Action League Arrested for Christian Action with a Hooker!
Rocky Mountain News says Pastor Ted's overseers are not pleased!
Disgraced pastor Ted Haggard won't be fundraising for a Monument nonprofit run by a sex offender, won't be ministering to anyone and needs to get a job, his overseers said in a statement released this afternoon. "Mr. Haggard's solicitation for personal support was inappropriate," his church supervisors said in the statement. The statement came one day after the four-member team of ministers responsible for overseeing the spiritual restoration of Haggard met with him in Phoenix. Last week, Haggard had e-mailed a KRDO-TV reporter in Colorado Springs, asking that supporters send contributions to Families with a Mission, a Monument non-profit run by Paul Huberty, a twice convicted sex offender. In his fundraising solicitation, Haggard said he was looking for people who would be willing to support him and his wife, Gayle, monthly for two years while they sought to obtain their counseling degrees from University of Phoenix. Haggard had also told KRDO that he and his family were planning to move into the Phoenix Dream Center, a halfway house, where he and his wife, Gayle, would minister to the "broken people" there. The overseers said Wednesday that Haggard will not be moving into the Dream Center. "It was never the intention of the Dream Center that Mr. Haggard would provide any counsel or other ministry," wrote the overseers. "Mr. Haggard will not be moving in or working with the Dream Center. He will not be doing any ministry. He will be seeking secular employment to support himself." Haggard, 50, quit in November as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and was fired as pastor of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs after he admitted to purchasing drugs and unspecified "sexual immorality" involving a male prostitute. P.S. -- Uh, oh! I wonder if this means Pastor Ted has to go through de-gay rehab all over again? It just doesn't seem fair that the overseers (Didn't Lincoln do away with overseers?) are trying to change the rules of the game. Pastor Ted always got away with fleecing his gullible followers out of their hard earned money in the past, why should he be expected to change now? And what's this about them telling him to get a job? That sounds like cruel and unusual punishment. Thank you, Jesus, for keeping Pastor Ted first and foremost in our minds! ![]()

Re: GOP Pres. of Christian Action League Arrested for Christian Action with a Hooker!
Chairman of the North Carolina state Republican Party is calling on Pastor Coy Privette to resign as county commissioner
Now that Pastor Coy has been convicted of six counts of aiding and abetting (shouldn't that be abedding?) prostitution, the GOP wants to kick him out of his job as Cabarrus County commissioner but Pastor Coy said, "Hell, no, I won't go." Or something like that. He wants to know what possible reasons they could have for demanding his resignation. No, really, that's exactly what he said. I think Pastor Coy has a very good point. After all, he wasn't tap dancing in an airport men's room looking for a little pick me up between flights like Sen. Larry Craig. And Sen. David Vitter, who confessed to the exact same "sin" as Pastor Coy, hooking up with hookers, was greeted by his senatorial colleagues with a standing ovation. Pastor Coy is missing the point here. Sen. Vitter was not convicted of a crime because the statute of limitations had run out. That's an extremely important point to conservative Christian moralists. If you can get away with the crime, then you are entitled to a standing ovation, especially if the governor of your state is a Democrat. Besides, Pastor Coy pleaded guilty to six counts of adultery (sex with a hooker) and Sen. Vitter's phone number only shows up five separate times on the D.C. Madam's list. And while it's true that Sen. Vitter did "confess" his "very serious sin," he never admitted exactly what "sin" he was talking about. Big difference! At least it is in the minds of the "family values" Republican Party. They applaud adultery! It's very popular among their members. Just ask their leading presidential candidates. Adultery is no barrier to advancement in the "family values" party. Adultery is to be admired, especially if you gradually trade up to younger and younger women as you grow older and more important in the party. It's considered a badge of honor. And comparing either Pastor Coy or Sen. Vitter to Sen. Craig's situation is absurd. Even though Sen. Craig pleaded guilty to just a minor misdemeanor of disorderly conduct, everybody knows he was attempting to pick up a male police officer! This is a much more serious offense than serial adultery with multiple hookers while wearing diapers. No wonder the GOP lost no time at all in demanding that Sen. Craig quit stalling and announce his resignation. Sen. Craig said it was all a big misunderstanding having to do with his exceptionally wide stance but the Grand Old Party is having none of it. If it had been something minor, like strangling your longtime mistress, the GOP would have been more forgiving, but attempting to make out with a police officer of the same sex is absolutely unforgivable. After all, the GOP has their reputation to think of.

New Life Church Shooting Suspect Identified as Matt Murray - Matthew J. Murray
December 10, 2007 Matt Murray 24, son of a Denver neurologist and living with his parents in their Englewood home, has been identified as the shooter in the Colorado Church shootings at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs. Police are expected to confirm his identity at a scheduled 3:00pm news conference. Authorities searched a home in the Denver suburb of Englewood early Monday, seeking any link between two deadly shooting sprees at Christian religious centers in Colorado Springs and Arvada. Neighbors said the family has lived at that home for 10-plus years and has two sons, one of which attends a religious school. A Cherry Creek School District spokeswoman said that Murray was homeschooled and she doesn’t have any record of him attending a high school in the area or receiving a diploma. Murray lives with his father, a neurologist with a practice in Lone Tree, his mother and brother. Developing… Here.

He hated Christians?
Brian Williams on the NBC Nightly News just said that Matt Murray, the shooter in both of the Colorado shootings, "hated Christians." He went on to say that Murray's religious affiliation, if any, was unknown. Well, here's a big clue: "Murray was briefly a student at the YWAM Arvada training centre in 2002. He was enrolled in a Discipleship Training School (DTS) but did not complete the program." That's what's posted on the Youth With a Mission website. P.S. -- In a CNN interview, Richard Werner, a fellow student, who was his roommate, said that Matt Murray did complete the Discipleship Training School program but that the school's leadership, in consultation with Murray's parents, decided not to send him out on a mission. He reportedly exhibited some bizarre behavior and had a fondness for Marilyn Manson music. The roommate kept a diary and he was able to refer back to incidents in 2002 and read from his diary exactly what Murray said on a particular date. Murray spoke about hearing voices and talked to himself a lot.

Assuming the Marilyn Manson music anecdote is true, that would be an interesting common thread with Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (the Columbine High School killers). According to Matt Murray's roommate, who was interviewed by Anderson Cooper on CNN, Murray had a fondness for goth music, especially Marilyn Manson, instead of the Christian music favored by the other students. Harris and Klebold were into Marilyn Manson.
The Virginia Tech killer, Cho Seung-Hui, referred to "martyrs like Eric and Dylan" in his "manifesto" that he left behind. That guy was really deranged. I suspect we will learn that this Matt Murray guy had serious mental health issues that were well known for years.

Arvada police said they were looking at Murray as a possible suspect in the Sunday morning dormitory shooting before the Colorado Springs shooting. Matt Murray's uncle, the Rev. Phil Abeyta of His Love Fellowship church in Denver, read a statement from the family: "Our family cannot express the magnitude of our grief for the victims. We ask for forgiveness. We cannot understand why this has happened." A few hours before the Colorado Springs shooting, Murray posted an online diatribe that he copied almost verbatim from Columbine killer Eric Harris' "manifesto."
