Re: Appalachian State?
The 49ers won the Super Bowl in 1981, 1984, 1988 and 1989. You might say they owned the 1980's. And then they won it again in 1994 with Steve Young as quarterback. They're 5-0 in Super Bowls. All of that happened when Eddie DeBartolo owned the team. His sister Denise has been an absolute disaster.

Re: Appalachian State?
Well, folks, I didn't put on my jersey that said Giants Super Bowl XLII champions for nothing today. The boys provided all the excitement I can handle for one evening/game. This has got to be one of the best championship games that I ever saw, personally.
I bet Tom Brady didn't expect to spend this much time laying on his back, or hit this many times during a game. I just got back from my son;s house ( 85 minute drive) and still can not get over it. ![]()

Re: Appalachian State?
I don't think Brady was hit that many times all year!!!! It was a heck of a game, and I am sure it will go down as one of the best Super bowls ever. That last drive reminded me of when The 49ers beat Cincinnati with a last second TD. Great finish!!!!

Re: Appalachian State?
Not Again!
LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux's troubled career hit another sour note Monday, as Coach Les Miles announced he had indefinitely suspended the Tigers' expected starter this season for a violation of team rules. It was the third such disciplinary measure imposed on Perrilloux since last May. Sources at the university familiar with the situation said Perrilloux's infractions involved missing classes, workouts and at least one team meeting, all violations of a private agreement Miles and Perrilloux reportedly reached last season. Perrilloux's situation could be even more dire, according to school officials who said Miles still is mulling the situation. Miles was unavailable for comment, but said in LSU's terse, four-sentence statement that the quarterback's status for spring football, which begins Feb. 29, is uncertain. P.S. -- I was wondering if he would be able to keep up the altar-boy persona he adopted following his last suspension. He was giving interviews with the press that sounded too good to be true. I'm sure he was coached on what to say but he sounded sincere and I've never heard a better apology and promise to behave from now on. He couldn't stop talking about what a great role model Matt Flynn was for him and how Coach Miles was the best coach in the whole world and he was so lucky to be a part of the great LSU football team. P.P.S. -- The AP just picked up on the story.

Man, I heard that this morning on ESPN. I can't believe this kid. He just can't seem to handle the position. What have you got for a backup for him???

Re: Appalachian State?
A transfer from Harvard or a redshirt freshman. I forgot their names. The freshman is straight out of high school but I believe the Harvard guy might be second or third year.

Re: Appalachian State?
I heard something about the transfer from Harvard, but all they were saying was that conference wasn't the SEC. You know how sports talk radio guys are!!!!
I guess we will see how long an indefinite suspension is gonna be. |

Re: Appalachian State?
"If Perrilloux were dismissed, the defending national champion would begin its season with either a transfer from Harvard, Andrew Hatch, who played sparingly last year, or redshirt freshman Jared Lee, who has never taken a snap in college.
"That is a decidedly thin lineup for a team that must face Florida and Auburn on the road and host Georgia. On the other hand, LSU begins the season with three home games against non-conference opponents Appalachian State, Troy and North Texas, which could provide a cushion for a novice quarterback." That's from the local press. Speculation down here is that there is a real possibility that Perrilloux could be out. Les Miles dropped three or four players last year and I don't believe any of them were guilty of "three strikes," except that one guy who was dropped after the nightclub brawl. I think he had two previous strikes against him. This is strike three for Perrilloux. The first was the involvement with the counterfeiting ring, then there was the arrest for trying to enter a casino boat using his brother's ID, and then there was the nightclub brawl where he and a couple of his buddies and their girlfriends allegedly refused to leave at closing time. Here's the situation the way I see it. Les Miles is apparently more of a straight shooter when it comes to discipline than Nick Saban was. Miles has told the team that he will hold them to a higher standard and he told Perrilloux that as the starting quarterback on the LSU football team he would be held to the highest standard. Miles demanded promises from Perrilloux and Perrilloux gave those promises. It looks like he has broken specific promises that he made to Miles in a lengthy session following the last incident. That was when Miles supposedly asked Perrilloux if he was willing to change his attitude and do what Miles demands of his players or if he wanted to seek a new opportunity elsewhere. Perrilloux's attitude was unbelievably good after he was reinstated (following the suspension for the Alabama game) and they even let him speak to the press to show off his new humility. Now, all of a sudden, they say he's cutting classes, skipping team meetings and not showing up for scheduled weight room sessions. LSU has never been a Florida State but they were never a Stanford or Tulane either when it came to requiring athletes to actually attend class and get passing grades. Some locals are complaining that the players are being treated differently now than they were just a few years ago. In other words, maybe some of these guys wouldn't have chosen LSU if they knew they were supposed to attend classes. So I don't know. That's just what they're saying right now. I think Ryan Perrilloux has a lot of promise but I think he may have an attitude problem and probably an immaturity problem. He's also not the sharpest pencil in the box either. You or I would think that if we had his ability and we were his age in his position with an opportunity to follow in LaMarcus Russell's footsteps to a multi-million dollar NFL contract that we would do whatever Coach Miles told us to do.

Re: Appalachian State?
I say put them both in and see who wants the ball the most.
![]() It just ticks me off that these kids waste their talent like they do. Getting into trouble or drugs or both. Then you get the kids that play their heart out and love playing the game in HS, but just don't have the talent to make it to the college level unless they are VERY lucky and make it as a walk-on and most big schools like that don't even deal with walk-ons (or so it seems). So, it just drives me nuts that people destroy their careers and themselves at such a young age. Not to bring up any sore points, but Mr. Vick is another idiot like that. To have all these high school (and younger) kids looking up to him to say "I want to be like Mike" and then this idiot does the things he does...it's just disgusting. I think UNLV just had the same type of situation happen here yesterday or today and the kid lost his scholarship for being a pinhead. I'm glad it happened...maybe other kids will learn from the example. One can only hope.... ![]()

Re: Appalachian State?
Looks like we won't know what's happening with Perrilloux until next week. Coach Miles said he will hold a press conference next week to discuss the Perrilloux situation.
Meanwhile, Perrilloux is refusing to say anything at all. Strictly "no comment." I think if he knew for sure he was getting booted off the team, he would be mouthing off right now, so maybe "no comment" is a good sign. Or maybe it simply means that Miles is still thinking about what he wants to do and hasn't given Perrilloux a final answer yet. In which case, a week for Ryan to think about things might do him some good. I would like to see him straighten out and fly right. He sounded like a changed person in his last media interviews. In fact, I couldn't believe those words were coming out of his mouth. It wasn't just the words, it was the way he said them. He sounded like the most humble, sincere, gung ho team player you have ever listened to in your life. Not the same kid who guaranteed that he would win at least three Heisman trophies. His other attitude problem was that he expected to be the starter last year instead of Matt Flynn. He seemed to have gotten over that idea and was praising Flynn every chance he got towards the end of the season.

Re: Appalachian State?
Tough Talk from Les Miles
Miles told the press that Ryan Perrilloux remains suspended indefinitely. However, he also said: "This is a team member who is no longer a member of the team in the short term." Miles went on to say that Perrilloux's "responsibility is to do everything right and get back on this team." Translation: Les Miles is not dumping Ryan Perrilloux. Not on your life! But he's trying to save face by sounding tough because the previous suspension was supposed to be Perrilloux's last chance. This is another "last chance." Reminds me of something Shakespeare had Macbeth say: "It is a tale ... full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." P.S. -- The full quotation: "It is a tale, told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." I usually leave out the "told by an idiot" part unless I'm talking about George W. Bush.

The other problem they have is that they will tell the students to remember that their personal behavior reflects on the school, and therefore they should always conducts themselves as perfect ladies and gentlemen. It's embarrassing when they turn around and tolerate public temper tantrums of this sort or of the sort that made Bobby Knight infamous.

Re: Appalachian State?
Another Ryan Perrilloux 'Incident'
Perrilloux did not return to spring practice as expected today and at least one New Orleans TV sports anchor is saying that it was because he was "involved in an incident over the weekend at Kona Grill." No other details yet and the restaurant's management refuses to answer any questions. Les Miles is expected to address this latest problem this Thursday. Perrilloux's last suspension for "missing several team meetings and dozens of classes" was expected to end today. The teevee sports guys all started asking questions when he didn't show up for practice today as expected. P.S. -- Guess who LSU will play on August 30, 2008 in the opening game of the season? Appalachian State! Appalachian State accepted the opportunity to play in Death Valley against the reigning national champs after Texas Tech chickened out. That season-opening win against Michigan last year must have gone to their heads. Good for them. I just hope they don't repeat what they did last year against Michigan. They get my vote for accepting the challenge.

Re: Appalachian State?
Perrilloux Incident?
There is virtually nothing at all on this alleged incident on any of the local news media websites. Nothing. I heard it on the 5 p.m. WDSU news broadcast (the New Orleans NBC affiliate) but they didn't have any details at all, just the report that Perrilloux wasn't at practice today and that Coach Miles would have something to say this Thursday about an 'incident' involving Perrilloux at a local restaurant. I googled all the blogs and all I came up with was one posting by someone who reported that the alleged incident involved an "altercation" between Perrilloux and a waiter at a Baton Rouge restaurant over the weekend.
