Re: Appalachian State?
I think flopping Missouri and Texas could be an option. Oklahoma should be a #1, they look just flat awesome!!!!
I also think that flopping LSU and 'Bama could happen, considering the victory in the swamp!! |

Re: Appalachian State?
I think the only spot that is certain is Oklahoma at No. 1. After that, anything could happen.
The press (for obvious reasons) plays up the AP Poll and ignores the Coaches Poll. I'm not sure which team the AP will have in the No. 2 spot but I'm fairly confident that the Coaches will put Missouri second even though they were off yesterday. Alabama looked terrific in the first half against Georgia and then they played "let's not blow this" in the second half. Texas has run up some astronomical numbers against weak teams. LSU defeated a strong Auburn team and a fairly strong Miss St team. They might hang onto a high ranking while the writers and the coaches wait to see what happens when LSU plays Florida. In other words, LSU going unbeaten after being national champs last year, will carry a lot of weight. As long as LSU is unbeaten, they might not jump Texas and 'Bama over them, but Missouri is a different story because of Chase Daniel. Again, the only thing that is sure at this moment is that Oklahoma will be No. 1. ![]() P.S. -- LSU could be 3, 4 or 5. I would be shocked if they're No. 2 and I wouldn't be surprised to see them at No. 5.

Re: Appalachian State?
Well, I guess we will find out for sure, what................ tomorrow??????
Aside from the redshirt QB, does LSU have a bunch of seniors, or are they a pretty "young" team? |

Re: Appalachian State?
The Coaches Poll is posted at noon ET Monday. The AP Poll is posted early Sunday afternoon at no set time.
I think they have five starters on defense who played last year. And I think most of their offensive line played last year. Obviously they lost their quarterback and their receivers and they lost their biggest defensive star. Their biggest weakness is that they fired Perrilloux. Andrew Hatch is a sophmore QB who was a QB in training at Harvard for one year before dropping out of school for a year. Instead of returning to Harvard (as expected), he went to LSU as the intended backup to Perrilloux. He's a fairly skinny kid and it looks like he can get knocked around easily. He was knocked out of the game last week early in the second quarter with a very obvious concussion. He had no idea where he was and he could barely stand up straight. Jarrett Lee played high school football last year with his father as QB coach.

Re: Appalachian State?
That isn't a real bright outlook for the program, is it??? I really think that the Florida game could be a make or break game for both of the programs, don't you???

Re: Appalachian State?
Correction: Looks like Jarrett Lee was redshirted as a true freshman in 2007. Biography.
I think he has a lot of potential. He could become another Chase Daniel in time.

Re: Appalachian State?
That looks like a pretty good top 5 George.
I'm going to go: Oklahoma Missouri Alabama Texas LSU Alabama looked all but invincible in the first half, and the game was AWAY for them. |

Re: Appalachian State?
Does LSU have the time????? I don't think Les Miles wants to see growing pains.

If Florida loses to LSU, their season is in serious jeopardy. Regardless of what happens, Urban Meyer and Les Miles won't be affected all that much. They're both making tons of money. And their jobs are secure.

Re: Appalachian State?
I think he would rather see "growing pains" than a QB who was a constant PITA.

Re: Appalachian State?
Yes, your Top 5 could very well be the top five, but, like I said before, the Coaches may not place Alabama that high because of Nick Saban and his $4 million salary.

Re: Appalachian State?
Ya, I know, but I think that is the way it should go. Take the politics out..... BUT we all know that won't happen.
Do you think we will have a real BCS championship game this year? |

For the past decade, starting with Saban, LSU has been remarkably successful in recruiting top high school talent away from powerhouse regional schools like Texas and Alabama. Jarrett Lee comes from the Houston area. LSU is pulling top talent from southeast Texas all the way to the Florida panhandle.

Do you mean that we will have two obvious No. 1 and No. 2 teams that won't lose their final game of the season? LSU could possibly go unbeaten. It's a longshot but it could happen. They would have to beat five strong SEC teams in the regular season before playing in the SEC conference championship game. Oklahoma and Missouri will play each other and one of them will have a loss. It would be impossible for LSU to be placed lower than a team with a loss because LSU would be the SEC champion at that point. If the SEC champion is unbeaten, the SEC champion will almost certainly be in the BCS Championship Bowl.

Re: Appalachian State?
Charlie,
Les Miles is now a saint at LSU after he turned down Michigan's offer. The LSU fans always expected that he would leave for Michigan if that spot came open. And he is held in even higher regard for letting Perrilloux go on principle even though Miles really wanted Perrilloux as his starting QB. Miles was a big fan of Perrilloux's athletic ability but not his off-the-field antics. I assume that Urban Meyer is secure with his fan base, too. Just look at how the Florida State fans worship Bobby Bowden.

OK, that is the perspective that you get, because you are closer to the situation. That is something I didn't really even think about. He did do the right thing with the little delinquent tho, I am really surprised he lasted that long!!!!! |

It's possible for LSU to go unbeaten but not probable. Jarrett Lee will be the key. If he can improve in a hurry and not turn the ball over with interceptions and fumbles, that would make a big difference.

Re: Appalachian State?
Is their schedule that different than any other SEC team?? That is why I think the BCS is alot of BS. Theoretically, there may not be a SEC team anywhere near the whole BCS thing. That would be just WRONG!!!!!

LSU fans are nuts. They start tailgating outside Tiger stadium on Friday evening after work. They sleep in their RVs in the parking lot. By dawn Saturday morning, the parking lots are practically full with tailgaters. Traffic near the campus is gridlocked for hours before a game. The stadium only holds 92,400 people but at least 120,000 show up for every game, according to media reports. They just hang around. I can't imagine sitting in the upper decks at Tiger stadium. I don't even like the upper seats at the Superdome. Jarrett Lee made the comment that when he was being recruited, he visited a few colleges that were recruiting him and then he visited LSU's campus on a home game weekend. Within two hours he told his dad it was over. No need to look at any more schools.
